I used (as always) STARE are my starter. That more or less determined the 4th line. But I used my "trick" to uncover some more letters. In particular, this happened to tell me the last line; in turn, that resolved the first line. I suspect that, like I was, you were also hamstrung by a couple of possibilities for the first line. My sequence happened to sort that out!

I agree that Waffle was also a bit challenging today!
