I received an email from FedEx earlier this week saying I would get a package on April 2nd.

I hadn't ordered anything so I checked on exactly what I was getting.

The tracking number was a duplicate from a computer case I ordered from walmart.com in January.

I researched and this computer case I originally ordered was being sent again . The weight of the part was exactly the same and sent from same company. I called the company but it was late in the day. I was told to call FedEx which I did.

Of course I was not going to accept the case because I hadn't ordered it so I did call FedEx and they took care of it for me. I asked about a scam and they said sometimes things like this happen.
I've never had anything like this to happen before.

Sounds like an issue with Walmart where they processed and shipped your order twice. If they didn't charge you for it the second time, I would have either just kept it or called Walmart after I got it for instructions on how to return it. They might have just said keep it anyway.

I get these once or twice a year purportedly from delivery companies, usually requesting more money. The ones I received last year changed slightly to request a tariff payment. I delete the email and nothing has ever been delivered.

Expand the mail header and check the originating domain of the email.

UPS/FedEx, etc., will duplicate numbers after a few months. Maybe they recycled yours and the wires crossed? Hope you didn't click any links.

These types of emails are where the problems start. You didn’t order anything, but you were curious and so you start clicking instead of going direct to Walmart or direct to FedEx’s site.

Are you positive that email came from FedEx? It's trivial for scammers to spoof addresses.

I give it at least a 50% chance it was a legitimate Walmart screw-up. Yes, there are all kinds of scams claiming you have a package on the way, but those go out to millions of accounts at once. They're not customized using your exact shipping number and package weight. That's not necessary to rope in the kind of idiots who respond to or click on unsolicited e-mails.

Had a similiar issue with Walmart a few years back. We received a shipment of chocolate candy...unordered and unwanted (well, unordered anyway). When I called to inquire I was told to keep it. My card had not been charged.

Here is the kicker on this.

The case I ordered from walmart.com back in January was not very good. I installed a motherboard in it and decided I didn't want anything built that cheap.

I put it back in the box exactly as I removed it with all the pieces. I even took pictures to make sure I packed it back the way it came. :)

I then took it to my local walmart and they took care of things for me and gave me cash. I paid using paypal so that was fine.

Now here it is almost three months later and for some reason it was being sent to me again. I remember telling my wife I wouldn't take the case if they sent it to me for free. Strange indeed. The reviews were all good.

In the last 25 years there is no telling how many computers parts I have ordered online and never had any issues until this .

I called the company it was shipped from to see if I could find out why this part was being shipped to me and who paid for it. They said it was too late in the day and for me to just call FedEx. I guess AI did it. lol

Yeah, they make mistakes and there is a scam for anything you can think of these days. It seems Walmart double shipped me something but didn't double charge so it's still in the box waiting to be donated. I never click on a shipping link and rarely look at shipping info emails. I hope you were not scammed.
