Tired of arguing about SS, shrinkflation and IRMAA yet?

It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving week often starts a rally into the New Year.

Sure the classic Santa Claus Rally is just the last few trading days of the year and a couple in the new, but I’ve noticed that things often start getting buoyant during the holiday shortened week of Thanksgiving.

Of course this year could be a bust. You never know!

Of course we’ve also got our fun 2004 S&P500 predictions contest going on. So far we briefly crept into the Shining Star Division, pulled back under but still closer to that group than the others.

I don't have a guess on what will happen. In any case, short of a catastrophic pull-back, I don't much care.

The market's gonna do what the market's gonna do. I'll just enjoy the holidays and take what comes.

I never predict. If we can stay here or maybe just a bit higher, I will break another $1M multiple at year end.

I'm up about 20.9% YTD, so this year has been great to me so far. Honestly, if I'm still at that point at the end of the year, I'll be grateful. But, I won't complain if it keeps going up :)

Friends and family all doing well. This Friday some may stop by for a get together. Wondering what topics will come up? I'll clam up and just listen.

I seem to recall some year..,2017? where I was having one of my best years, only to lose all my gains on the last week of the year.

Yep beat me to it. Indeed it is tongue in cheek and just how many SS conversations can we have in a few weeks?
Oh, come on! I have all my usual SS responses and comments lined up so that I can just copy and paste them instead of typing. It's fun!

Next up for January: "should I pay off my mortgage?"

Yes along with competition from " I have 5m with a 0 WR, but not sure I can retire yet" discussion.

Oil price collapse? I remember that. I think it was Xmas New Years 2015/2016.

My ETFs are up 24% to 30% YTD so I'm ok with that.
An additional end of year rally? Fine, bring it...

Wife and I also clam up during friends and family gatherings when it comes to politics or any topics that lead to debate for that matter. But we do enjoy getting it out of our system on the way home if just to reaffirm our own opinions on those topics. After 50 years of marriage, our minds are in sync on those things so it's all. very therapeutic.

It looks like the rally started today. Let us see where it ends in late December. A lot of times it goes south end of December.

As others have said, I’d be fine if it just holds at this level. It’s been a great run this year.

I have no idea what the market will do today, this year, or even the next couple of years, but damn it's been a glorious couple of years for equity investors!

It's a ploy, people feel richer as the market goes up, so they buy more presents.... then at the end of December the credit card bills come in and they all have to sell to pay them off ;)

Very logical explanation for this ritual event this time of the year. Lol

Sorry, according to my new highs the rally started on the 6th

First world problem- The year end rally jacks up the amount for my 2024 RMD.

The Santa Claus Rally seems to appear most years and generally means a rally occurs during the last 3 trading days of Dec and the first 2 trading days Jan. Something like that anyway.

In other words, going south at the end of December is unusual.
