My S&P equity fund, FXAIX is at +26.68% YTD and +32.83% Past Year. That means last year on Nov 25th to the end of year, the fund grew by +6%. Can that be right?!

The Santa Claus Rally seems to appear most years and generally means a rally occurs during the last 3 trading days of Dec and the first 2 trading days Jan. Something like that anyway.

In other words, going south at the end of December is unusual.

Plus, this time around we have an election year rally as well. I read some financial story that said from Election day to Inauguration day, the SP500 averages around a 3.4% gain.

I noticed last night that the futures were quite strong for the equity indexes and the season inspired this thread.

So far so good! Thanksgiving shortened trading week delivered the typical rally even ending Nov on a new high for this year.

Now we can sit back and watch what happens in December.

I feel that predicting market direction , especially on a short term basis, is impossible. That said, I think it's worth noting that the average bull market lasts 5 years. So given we are only in the beginning of year 3 historically odds would favor we have much more room to go.
