Watching YouTube at 1.25 speed. Is this impatience or efficiency.

I know there are some things don’t do well at 1.25 speed but I find myself selecting it more often and my comprehension does not suffer. I vote efficiency.😊

Yes, it can w*rk and you can always slow it back down if you miss something.

I'll try 1.5 usually. Youtubers tend to be long winded, won't get to the point, don't edit and who needs an intro for a 10 minute video. I know it's part of the monetization formula.

What Jazz said. I'll do 1.25x or 1.5x for most things that aren't music. Some of those people talk so slow I swear I don't notice a difference between 1.5x and normal speech and I can understand them perfectly even at 2x. And they all take 15-30 mins to give 2-10 mins worth of usable data. And as Jazz said, even that's often poorly edited rambling. So, to your question: It's efficiency

^This.

I just started using 1.25x a couple of weeks ago, and it makes such a difference when the presenter is rambling all over the place.

Watching You Tube at 1.25x speed is efficiency. Oftentimes I go 1.5x.

The only time I go normal speed is on music videos. I wish there was a way to set 1.25x speed as the default speed.

Both - I typically hate getting info (other than DIY stuff) through videos - I'd 10 times rather read something as I can skim so much faster.

Even at 1.25x or 1.5x there's still so much filler and extraneous stuff. And in general, the veracity of video info is lower considering it's easier to check that of written material and reject it outright if it is poor.

I must be the only one that tends to slow down the playback speed to .75x or lower. Watching mechanical repairs, tying new and exciting fishing knots, things that involve several steps using the hands. Some tennis short videos I will reduce to .5x to study a players swing techniques.

Like others here, I frequently find myself at 1.5 speed, sometimes faster. Most video creators are just too slow and go off on tangents too often. If I miss something, I can always go back and slow it down, but I rarely find myself doing that.

Unlike most others here, I try to stay away from you-tube if at all possible. Too many people out there are just idiots.

If I need to find out how to do something, I'll search extensively for manuals or how-to articles. If I absolutely have to watch a video to figure something out, I keep my computer on 'mute'.

Depends on what subject I am watching. A lot of times on financial videos I use the timeline slider and skip towards the end and look for a summary these days.

The few times I watch a u-tube video I'll click the transcript button and scan through that looking for any pertinent info. I'm much faster at comprehension reading than watching.
And yeah, lots of u-tubers are so darn boring. And horribly lit, shaky, videos.

Youtube is getting unwatchable anyway with all the ads, but at least the songs usually play to the end

I agree, and finally decided to pay the ~$12/month to get rid of the ads. I follow many YT creators (mostly makers, but also some physical therapists and strength coaches) and want to enjoy the experience.

And yes, I often watch at 1.25, for overly-wordy creators.

One of the coolest features of Gemini AI is that you can give Gemini the link for the YouTube video, tell it to watch the video, and then give you a bulleted list of the highlights. "Hey Gemini, watch this YouTube Video and give me a summary of 6 bullet points of the content of the video."

This really cuts down on viewing time!

Haven't tried it... but did listen to albums at 45 RPM.... usually, funny smelling tiny cigarettes involved.

My default is 1.5X but I find myself moving towards the 1.75 to 1.8 range.
