Weight Loss Injection Opinions

DD started Wegovy about a month ago, Her "food noise" is all but vanished. She has had some nausea on the first couple days after her monthly injection. She and her Dr are hoping/planning on a 50 lb weight loss.
My brother is continuing slow weight loss , now on monjourno, has lost another 10. He and his dr want him to lose another 20. His diabetes is so much better, and his kidney function is improved.

Both of them will probably be on it for life, hopefully at a micro dose after reaching their numbers.

I have recently talked with my PCP about pros/cons. I am "pre diabetic", have been for years. Initially lost weight on metformin.
I had anorexia in HS, at my worst weighed less than 100 lbs, I simply ignored the food noise in my brain. As an older adult, I then became a "YoYo" dieter and have wrecked my metabolism. I already don't have much of an appetite, despite my strong "food noise"and am more of a grazer, rather than a three meal a day eater.
The meds aren't covered by medicare, but my PCP will prescribe them and the pharmacy will help me get them via the manufacturer.
Still considering, so thankful for the input in this thread.

I ve had a weight problem (and pre-diabetes) most of my life (as have all my 5 sibs). Actually 3 of my sibs have diabetes.
I restarted Weight Watchers (slow, steady loss in the past) and lost 12 lbs over 5 months but plateaued. My PCP recommended Wegovy use at lowest dose. I ve now lost another 12 lbs.
Total of 24 lbs over 12 months. No side effects from Wegovy and it curbs my "sweet tooth" . My goal is to loss another 8 lbs which gets me out of the BMI for Obesity. I don't want to be skinny; just Healthy.
Some small studies show that small dose GLP 1 given every 2 weeks helps people maintain weight loss. I'll consider it when I get to goal and discuss with PCP.

Many people have been experimenting on their own with less frequent dosing for maintenance, which reduces the cost considerably.

I've been on a long and very slow weight loss process since 2016, with glitches along the way, including going back to work. BMI started at 35, now it's at 23. I had a plateau lasting 18 months, despite regular exercise and low carb diet-I liked to snack too much, and I started to gain. I went on tirzepatide 9 months ago and I've lost 25 lbs since then. I will soon begin a slow wean off. I'd like to get to a BMI of 22, which will give me a cushion of acceptable weight gain as I come off. I made the lifestyle changes, but my body was fighting my efforts to lose weight.

The best way to keep it off is to make the lifestyle changes and both cardio and resistance exercise to build/maintain muscle mass.

People who don't deal with obesity blame people for overeating, but the body often fights losing weight. My weight went way up with menopause. Metabolism changes are real.

We keep learning about Ozempic side effects, some good, some bad.

Here's a new one....

I found this thread pretty late, but I'll leave some feedback from what I went through. Yeah... the experiences people are sharing here are exactly why I stopped thinking these meds are "simple." You keep hearing new weird side effects and it just keeps getting stranger.

I also used Ozempic thinking it's just a weight loss tool and that's it. First weeks were solid, weight going down, appetite under control, felt like I finally found something that works. Then things shifted, not just nausea but overall weird changes in my body, energy off, digestion messed up, just didn't feel right anymore.

I went digging because it didn't feel normal and ended up on Ozempic Lawsuits, saw a lot of people talking about unexpected stuff beyond the usual side effects. After that, yeah... I don't look at these injections the same way, there's clearly more going on than what they tell you upfront.

I generally stay away from injections, so I wouldn’t take weight loss injections. Too new to assess all possible side effects.

I am not on weight loss injections because I don't want side effects from them since I am allergic to most supplements, drugs, food etc. My allergist said don't take anything unless it is going to save my life because I am highly allergic to almost everything. I am not over weight but should lose 12 lbs that will help me with my blood pressure. So I started the journey of dieting. I am already golfing 4 to 5 days a week, so it is not about being more active. I have lost 4 lbs since I started with this journey about 4 weeks ago. I want to lose another 8 lbs.

My insurer coaxed me into a "Diabetes Reversal & Weight Loss" program called Virta - they picked up the tab. Started Sep.2025 at around 292 lbs at 6ft with an A1C of 6.2 (I was 6.5 a couple of years earlier so I was classified as diabetic at that time) taking only Metformin 500 once a day. This is a medically supervised Keto diet where I take weight, blood glucose, ketones and BP measurements every day and they are automatically transmitted to the provider. By January I was down to 262 and my A1C had dropped all the way to 5.2. I asked if they would prescribe Mounjaro and the insurance company paid for 80% of the cost. After 3 months I stopped because I found I started disliking all foods all the time. During my time on Mounjaro, I had the same weight loss as before (I stayed on the Keto diet the whole time). So now I'm back to just the Keto diet, hoping that my sense of taste returns soon. GLP-1s might work for most people, just not me. Now at 237 lbs., and hope to keep loosing around 1.5 lbs a week till I get solidly out of the "Obese" BMI range.....

I've read good things about the Virta program, and I've long had the greatest respect for a couple of the co-founders (Phinney and Volek). It's certainly not cheap, but having your insurance pay for it is a huge break. Good luck in your progress.

I took Oz for about 6 months as I am type2 and it trully helped me. My sugar has been very controlled and it helped me create healthier habits. Ive lost close to 15lbs or so which for me is a huge win. I have been off of it for about 4 months now. weight has not come back ...yet. My daily routine is much different now than it was before I started. your miles may vary.

I am down 45lbs from my high. Actually reached 160 this week while my goal started was 175. New goal of 150lbs to be actually thin!

Still taking the 1mg Ozempic shot weekly, paid mostly by Medicare as I am Diabetic. Diabetes is well controlled now and would be considered prediabetic. but Dr is thrilled with the numbers and loss of belly fat and a BMI in The normal range.

I still love good food and cooking but the food noise and incessant food thoughts are gone as is the ever present hunger.

Also has seemed to help with other issues like joints and inflammation.

These drugs have a place for those whose weight is causing serious health issues. Maybe not so much for those who want to lose a feew pounds, for these reasons:
(1) Weight lost on the drugs comes from both fat and muscle. Losing muscle mass can have serious later-life consequences.
(2) When folks stop, they often regain weight. Fat is easier to regain than muscle.
So, if you choose to take these drugs be prepared to work hard to retain muscle mass.
Also be prepared to take them for life, unless you believe that you can muster the strength of will to keep the weight off.
