What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

A 14 hour miserable round trip to Montana and back today to get a piece of equipment.
Montana and South Dakota seriously need to tax their residents MORE $!
They're roads are absolute crap! Hard to believe residents put up with that!

Terrible roads!!!

went to ranch about 6 AM and stayed till noon. I took over the sculpture I restored and put it into the new cabin. It weighs 265 pounds, and I built a coaster so I could roll it off of the trailer and then a makeshift ramp into the cabin.
After I started dropping off of the high country and into the horseshoe valley the fog was a beautiful sight. Always foggy in the valley.

Nice job!

Went to the USAF Museum today. Stayed until closing and didn’t get to see everything. Very impressive place. Wish we had more time and could go tomorrow, but we have to keep on moving. On to Lexington KY tomorrow.

Spent the night in two ERs with DW who began having severe eye pain and nausea yesterday evening. Turns out it was acute angle-closure glaucoma, which hit her without warning. The first ER did an initial diagnosis but had only limited eye treatment capability, so she was transferred by ambulance to the one hospital in San Antonio with a 24/7 Ophthalmology ER. She was given an IV plus three additional eye medications and three hours later her eye pressure came down enough to give her some relief and let us go home. We were fortunate to make it to the house before getting caught in morning rush hour traffic.

She has an appointment tomorrow with a glaucoma specialist for what we expect will be a laser iridotomy. That procedure will hopefully prevent any recurrence.

Got both flu and the first shingles vaccine yesterday and off my game today.

Managed to get in a workout today but was very slow. Hoping to be back to full strength tomorrow.

Yesterday fishing on the Yellowstone and mowing for a State Outpost Research Station. Been trapping minnows in a crick that runs through the small town I live in. Will set another this early and head to ranch to do a few odds and ends on the cabin at m leisure.

This evening will go fishing again till dark. Another day in paradise.

Went to the huge nearby military base indoor olympic pool for my 3/4 day/wk workout and enjoyed watching the Army/Navy/Coast Guard training. Great bunch of men. I feel very safe in the event I start to sink.

I figured out how to sleep in my CRV. There are times when I am traveling that it would be nice to spend the night in my car because I am in a remote location. I also had the goal of doing it on the cheap.

I was able to fold down the back seats. Lay two pieces of OSB down to level the back and stack pieces of 2"x4"s under the back end of the OSB to support it. I had all this laying around and didn't have to cut anything. I then put down an air mattress and sleeping bag on the diagonal. I'm 6' tall, and I fit nicely. I'm excited to go to the National Forrest on Monday night to try it out.

The only time I have camped was in the Army many decades ago. I guess that has instilled the minimalistic approach in me.

DH is off today to Seattle for a football game with a friend/former co-worker. I am here with puppy.

Neighbors are moving, the van pulled up at 730 am. We have seen some busy activity over there the past few weeks, including one day with a bunch of furniture "free" in their driveway.
They have been neighbors for 20+ years, but are very quiet and keep to themselves primarily.
Hopefully they are selling to a couple or family who will live there and not rent out. The few homes that are rented out here seem to be less kept up then the homeowners ones. But this still remains a very nice neighborhood with a local elementary school and great little park.
There are only three other neighbors who have been here as long as we have(30+ years) and one other at 20 years. Our conversations are frequently about "are you staying or downsizing?" lol.

There are 16 houses on my street. Only one has people who have lived here longer than us - a guy in his 70s who was born in the house that he and his wife still live in. They only have one child, who lives in Massachusetts, so it is likely that we will in not too many years be the oldsters on the street. We moved here in 1992 and I don't see leaving until we physically cannot stay any longer.

Put up a curtain rod and hung curtains in the bedroom. DW took six years to get around selecting/buying the curtains something to go over the blinds.

With direction from the sidewalk superintendent.

Naturally, the curtain rods had to go up PDQ! Yesterday even!

Those 48" levels are wonderful, along with cordless drills.

Weed eater/w saw blade cutting juniper for an hour this morn.
Formed and poured concrete on second tier platform for storage shed.
Nice ride on the geldings with our 6 month old pup on his first time out with us off leash. He did pretty good and can continue going out with us.
Built more bucks for another buck n pole pasture.
Backs tight! Called it it day!

The problem could be that there aren’t (m)any residents…

second ride out with the 6 month old pup off leash. Still many moments but think he's gonna be a good mountain dog!

Went out on the boat with the dogs this morning. Cool and calm on the water. Leaves starting to change. Drove around for a while and caught a saugeye. Got home before lunch.

Following up on this post, DW was given two options to resolve her glaucoma: the laser procedure or cataract surgery. She went with the cataract option since she had already been thinking about having it done. She had the procedure on Tuesday and is doing great.

Was in Boston for the weekend working to resolve a real estate issue. Done with that and is good to everyone’s satisfaction.

Detouring on the way back home (West Coast) thru Cancun for our quarterly honeymoon. Now chillin’ poolside with a dark Modelo beer with my lovely blushing bride … going on 40 years now.

Early retirement life is good 😊

Another day of playing lumberjack.
Last few weeks took one day a week at camp to drag out, cut up, load truck with fallen dead trees. Mostly oak, some poplar and a few acacia.
After getting them home split the ones too big around to fit in woodstove.
My wood shed is full, let it snow.

Woke up this morning to rain. Took the dogs for a 20 minutes walk instead of the usual hour, and spent almost as long wiping away the wet grime they were covered in.

Today was an unexpected Dr. visit (they called and had a cancellation so I went early) then a minor grocery run on the way home for DW. Saturday was a fun fly and picinic at the R/C flying site and I enjoyed that until back pain forced me to leave.

These are all small photos (500 pixels on the long side) that I took at the picnic.

Working on my house projects. Still doing porch deck rails. The temps have finally come down so I can work on stuff after 8 or 9 AM and not get roasted. Picking up the pace on things a little.
