What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Worked out this morning.

This afternoon I cleaned the gutters, disposed of a dead squirrel I found in the yard, and finished up putting everything away for the winter. We are getting spoiled in NoCo this year. Another 50 degree sunny day.

Last night, we went to see the musical "Christmas Story" at the Goodspeed Opera House. Today we went to see "Wicked" at the movies. Later this evening, we're going out to dinner at the young wife's favorite restaurant (it's her birthday).

Went flying with a friend who taught me to fly almost 50 years ago. (It doesn't seem that long!) Anyway, I hadn't sat at the controls of an airplane for at least 10 years, and a Tri-Pacer for 40+ years, and while I can't say that I felt right at home, it did come back although more slowly than I would have liked. I don't remember it being that difficult to get in and out, but I was a lot more flexible then I guess. And during the entire flight of about an hour and a half and five landings, Tom never touched the controls. I had a ball! It seemed the least I could do was to pay for filling the tanks. Tom doesn't own it, he only borrowed the airplane. The owner told him to fly it anytime he wants to, he (the owner) only flew it 22 hours last year. I'll be happy to help them out anytime!

Restored my car's oxidized headlight. This is about the 3rd or 4th time. 1st one was done well. The next ones were not so good. This time, I decided to take my time and do everything by the manual and more. It went well until the last moment. It had been raining in CA and as I was closing the hood, a drop of water streak down on the headlight before the clearcoat fully dried. It left a thin line which I didn't want to fix. It isn't visible so no harm done.

Spent the day at the ranch. I went early to get an early start on burning those large tree stumps. They burned for 8 hours when I headed home and they were just about burned up. They will smolder a few days. I cut up a few cord of wood and stacked in the wood shed to dry for next year.
I took a walk in the high country and when I got back there were some deer at the line shack, I built this summer. I had the stove going and was about 75 degrees when I got back. Another great day in paradise.

Heading to longer brothers house for our Sibling Christmas get together. Normally 8 of us, but DBIL went to hospital last night. Praying he does well and goes home soon, as he has liver cancer.

We're supposed to get some snow tomorrow so I brought the snow blower outside, put gas in it, and ran it up to the garage. This is the best known way to ward off a snowstorm or at least minimize it.

Nice weather in the AM. Went out for an hour+ hike in an area I had not been to. Then put one last coat of paint on some deck edge boards to attach later. After Noon the wind came up, clouds moved in, temp went down.

@Walt34 thank you for sharing your flight day, I could use one of those
I drove home late last night after warming up at the apartment. I had a gout flare all day working on the house and could not get a boot on that foot so I wore tennies.
Today I took colchicine and took it easy. I have been burning the candle at all ends and this was a needed break. I picked up rimboard and nails at the lumber store, a few groceries, that was it.
Pinky Pinkerton is tougher than 40 pounds of gun nails.

We're a Navy family. That said, I was almost rooting for Army to help them round out a wonderful season. Almost.

Not I, at least not this year. Maybe all but two Saturdays; Army and my alma mater have a longstanding rivalry, although nowadays it is not contested frequently.

Wrapped up the Fall Cyclocross bike race season this weekend. Overall for the season 4th place in a 16 racer field. Happy with that result.

Taking a few weeks off and then it’s back on the bike for mountain bike race season.

Started a 5 day housesit in Dunedin, FL. Watching this oh so sweet pug along with sunsets, Christmas lights, and an amazing dinner.
