What did you do today 2025

My previous trips to the Islands as a tourist are starting to sound like a bargain! For that kind of money, we could have done all the paid touristy stuff our "package company" tried to sell us. I never knew skiing was that expensive.
It doesn't have to be. My season pass costs around $700 and I'll get around 35-40 days of use out of it (under $20/day). I spent zero dollars at the resort last season and even the bus from my house to the resort is free. One day last season I found a $20 bill on the ground and thought, "I actually made money today!"

In contrast, a typical family of four spends between $20K and $30K on a 1-week ski vacation to Vail. Even being economical with self-catering in a condo on the vail resort bus route (i.e. not ski in/out), and advance planning on lift tickets and rentals, it's still $15K for a 1-week family vacation. Last year one of the ski magazines estimated the cost of a long-weekend "Budget" ski trip to Vail (4 nights / 3 days of skiing) at $10K.

Went to the dermatologist who removed a small lesion from my arm for biopsy. Short and easy looking procedure with a razor blade and electric thing to "put a scab on it" after they razored it off. Then froze off 3 moles on my back. Interesting and first time for me with this stuff. Did not really hurt.

Went to Walmart. Eggs ~ same price as local grocer. Disposable razors were in a locked case, and so was a lot of stuff that did not used to be. Not all expensive stuff either. Unless you call $20 for 25 razors expensive.

I gave blood in the morning, then went to my church to process this week's collections and deposit them in the bank, then to the grocery and then back home.

I'd call that expensive. I still have bags of Bics and even Good News (Gillette) dispo razors that cost $0.10 (of course, that was 25 years ago.) I never understood how they could charge today's prices for razors. And, up to (what?) 7 blades now?? YGTBKM

Full disclosure: I mostly use electric now, though a few times a year, I feel like a clean shave. I have got be careful 'cause my skin isn't used to those sharp blades.

By the way, a friend of mine, just today, went in for a tiny spot of cancer removal from his scalp. When they got inside (not his head - his scalp) they found it had spread underneath the skin and was much more extensive than they thought. They're pretty sure they got it all and it is the least aggressive kind (squamous cell).

Hope your friend will be OK now. I had a prior thing on that arm that fell off on it's own. Just looked like a bad pimple. So I am not worried, but will follow up with them.

I shave electric, but the blade is for getting the bits the Norelco does not. Just the cheap 2 blade things. For $0.10 each 25 years ago, I'm glad they cost less than $1 now.

Had an AM Doc appt. followed by driving to the pharmacy for a prescription refill, and made it home in plenty of time to beat the snow. So we're inside, and have no plans to go farther than the mailbox for about a week.

Didn't go anywhere today because the roads are icy. It isn't that I couldn't drive in the conditions, but caution is in order because most people are unaccustomed to snow here.

I had planned to buy some spackling compound and repair a small piece of wall damaged by moisture from the kitchen counter. This was in an area at one end of the kitchen counter that wasn't tiled. Instead, I finished scraping out and recaulking the rest of the seam between the kitchen counters and the tile backsplash.

I fired my realtor lol
Sorry your situation had to come to that. I fired an HVAC contractor in 2020, and found it stressful. Fortunately, we're happy with the replacement company and have stuck with them since.

I want to get an MRI on my foot. I went to the doctor yesterday. He sent the MRI orders to the less expensive place. They quoted $1800. I just spent an hour on the phone with my insurance trying to find somewhere less expensive. The normal place the doctor would normally send me is supposedly $800. I messaged the doctor to send the orders to them. I will see what the price will be. Both are in-network.

I have also been researching the low cost, no insurance MRI places. There is one about 1.5 hours away that is $500.

I hate the medical insurance and medical system. It is just too complicated and opaque.

The good thing was Coke Zero and ribeyes are on sale. I stocked up on both. The dog and I will be eating well for a while.

Went for my 6 month checkup for the stent that was installed in my carotid artery last summer. The ultrasound was done and the blood flow velocities were great! See you in a year was the recommendation. No issues noted.
Great news! We've been following your journey. Thanks for sharing.

I took peanut to the office today. It was his first ride in the dump truck. It is quite intimidating. Just as we walked up to it, the auto dryer unit popped off and released a loud blast of air. Not a good start for him!

I did a mandatory random BAC test for the feds, then picked up some rake metal for the roof, and PEX tubing for underground and under the floor from the vendor.
I have a full crew showing up tomorrow and need to keep work in front of them.

Fought the early morning traffic to take DW to get an ultrasound test. I was so glad I took my hoodie with me. The office must have been AC'd to 65 degrees. Brrrrrr.

Thank goodness the trip home was in relative uneventful traffic. What a pain. Perhaps the worst thing about Paradise is the traffic.

I was on a 1 month trip to Texas but forecast too rainy. So I made a quick trip to Key West here for a few days. Probably weather as good as it gets low 70, high 80.

Spent the day contemplating weightt matters.

OMG, Peanut's worried little face! 🥰

Currently sitting in the waiting room at the Oral Surgeon’s office while DGF is having a tooth extracted and a bone graft for an implant. She is not a happy camper.

I woke up to 3-4" of snow in South Jersey.

Snow Day!

Getting ready to take the cat to the vet to check out her nail. she tore off the sheath a few days ago and we need to make sure it's not infected. She is not a happy camper knowing she's going to the vet :( .

Thanks! It was really a scare having one of those critical arteries start having problems. Doc says all four in that area are in good shape, even with the stent, and should not be an issue, although at my age, hardening of those arteries and some plaque formation can't be avoided. Part of getting old he said.

DH and I rescheduled our beach trip to the end of the month, I am still dealing with this lingering covid rebound congestion and cough. Getting better though, slowly.
Today is cold and sunny, at 28 degrees, I will go sit out and face the sun for a bit again. Good to get that fresh cold air.
We are expecting snow and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow, so will be staying put. DH went shopping for basics last night.

Awaiting plumbers to visit. Need to replace both commodes in my forty year old shack. Could do it myself, but my back is prone to act up, and besides, can’t take it with you!

Working lately on adding off-grid solar. Prices for panels and battery units are dropping, plus I took advantage of some holiday specials. Payback is probably never, but my base usage is 200-300 kwh, and I’m replacing a couple of kwh/day. But helps satisfy my need to putz around with tech.

As the photos illustrate, I have two arrays of four 100w panels each, mounted on racks. I decided to buy kits design to move a table saw or whatnot, one of which is shown. From about Oct to Mar, I can scoot the panel nearest the garage wall fully against the wall, but with the sun being higher starting around the spring equinox, the eaves start shading the panels, so I can wheel the rack to adjust. The other array has a different problem, which is the distance it needs to be away from the other array to avoid shadowing.

Light snow, about three inches on the deck, maybe two on the driveway but it's wet slushy stuff. It's heavy enough to justify using the snow blower to clear the driveway and two of the neighbor's. I could have just waited until tomorrow when it's supposed to be 50° and that would have melted it. But although I hate snow I enjoy using a snow blower. Go figure. Maybe it's just because I like machinery.

This is a panorama shot out the back yard from the deck. Winter is the only time you can see the creek out back.

I've always thought when we took the fur babies to the vet that I wish I could take on the pain / anxiety in their place (although obviously that's not an option).

Hopefully she'll get out of their quickly with minimal anxiety and proceed to a speedy recovery.
