What did you do today 2025

3rd outdoor run of the year. Decided I don't want to carry my phone or listen to tunes through Apple Watch/ EarPods (dangerous - can't hear any outdoor sounds). So I got Shokz earphones to work with my Apple Watch tunes. Now I can hear tunes and dogs/cars/etc.

Did some woodworking until tornado sirens went off - then went in the house and programmed DW's tv with new software and watched some "Americas" documentary episodes. And played with the vintage 1917 pocket watch that I bought off Etsy.

I am fascinated by older pocket watches. I bought a early 19th century silver pocket watch quite a few years ago on ebay. It works, and had a little repair paper inside the back case that was dated 1837, so it is older than that. Amazing the precision they could do back then with no computer controlled milling machines. I would love an even earlier mechanism, say from the mid 1700s.

Finished up "summerizing" the snow blower. There are maybe a dozen oil points to do, three grease fittings, and some gears that needs greasing and a chain (like a bicycle chain) that I use a chain lube on. One point that lots of people neglect is to take the wheels off and liberally grease the axles. If neglected for two to five years in a row, depending on storage conditions, the wheels will become "rust-welded" on and you'll have a devil of a time getting them off when the need arises. And it will arise, usually when the friction wheel needs replacing. That's a wear item like brake pads or windshield wipers on a car that are not intended to last forever.

About week ago Car-Guy mentioned the food was good at Texas Roadhouse. I’ve heard good things about this restaurant a few years ago, but never wanted to make the 65 mile drive into PA for the nearest location. I live in NJ. I checked today and there are some locations in NJ, but the website shows these locations as 105 to 631 miles away! 105 miles is correct, but NJ is only about 115 miles long.

I checked Google Maps and the closest location is only 29 miles away - so I’ll add it to my todo list.

Put a turn signals and brake light kit on my golf cart today. Already had headlight and taillights, so now it's a little safer with brake lights and turn signals. The turn signal kit also had a horn included, so now have one of those as well.
Assume it has a 454 too. :)

I didn't realize that chain had restaurants up in PA/NJ area. Hope it's as good as it is down here.

There is a Texas Roadhouse in West Haven, Connecticut. Seems a bit incongruous. Apparently, it is successful, though, since it has been there for a while.

Spend the day at the ranch and worked some, played some and was another beautiful day. So, blessed in life to have my health so in life.

Got my swallow well gas operated pump back on for the year. Got the large piece of ground fabric spread out in the old corral and ready for planting in about 6 weeks. Moved some dirt to fill in a caved in corner where the old house was buried last fall.

I then took a short walk found a horn and took a few pictures. The horns in the picture what I have found (16) on the ranch this spring.

Put a fresh corned beef brisket in the crockpot after searing it, added bone broth, corned beef seasonings and potatoes, will pop the cabbage in for about an hour or so before dinner tonight.
Followed the prep directions from the butcher for brining, as I have never done a fresh corned beef from scratch before.

Still on our Viking cruise. We crossed the equator last night so today was the big ceremony for people who sail across the equator for the first time … which meant us.

It was hilarious. Probably 15 members of the crew and 50 guests took part while 150 other people cheered and laughed.

Bow to King Neptune, kish a fish, jump into the pool, get some yellow stuff smeared on your face, and then do a shot.

Guests could wear swimsuits but the crew had to do it in their uniforms!

Welcome, fellow Shellback.

Got a call which caller ID said was from Citibank. They said there were suspected fraudulent charges from several countries. Asked too many questions and kept me on the phone for 20 minutes. Finally I hung up thinking scam, and they called back twice but left no message. I searched the phone number and appears to be a legit Citi number. Could have been spoofed I guess.

Cancelled the card and asked for replacement. Froze my credit at all 3 bureaus. What a pain.

A couple of days ago our desktop crashed in the middle of doing mundane daily activities. I restarted it and it seemed okay but yesterday it happened again, and again. So today we headed off to the Apple store first thing to buy a shiny new iMac. Ours was just over 6 years old which is a decent lifespan for a heavily used computer I suppose so I'm not upset about it. Apple also makes it super easy to transfer all files and data from the old computer to the new one which makes for a really seamless transition. I'm up and running on the new one now. I'll just have to explore whatever is new and different from the old one. For one thing, it has Touch ID which is nice. It also has Apple Pay, also a nice feature for online shopping.

This morning I noticed that the flag at our condo subdivision was kind of tattered (holes in the edge). I was already aware that it was pretty faded, but that's not a problem. So I replaced it with a new one. We have a 30 foot flagpole with an internal halyard, so it's not a big deal.
While I was doing that, a neighbor came by and asked what I was doing. He said he had no idea that the flag was ever replaced, and I think that's the case for most. I looked it up and this is the eighth flag I've replaced since we moved here ten years ago. I hope someone takes up the task when I'm gone, but I kind of doubt it.

Went to Woolaroc. This is a hidden gem about an hour north of Tulsa. It is Frank Philips private collection. It is jaw dropping. If you are ever in this part of the country, you should go.

If you are not familiar with it, just Google it.

Street, what are you planning on doing with all those collected horns?
I been collecting them for about 35 years have ~1000. I just can't part with them there is buyer in Neb. that contacts me every year wanting to buy them, but I'm not ready. Lol
So, I do nothing with them but enjoy them. This year I found 24 so far including two today. I average about 3.7 miles of walking to find one horn. Not to good but great exercise and get to explore and be in the outdoors. It is like an easter egg hunt every day.

aja8888, I guess if times get tough, I could make horn soup. Lol

Thanks, was just wondering. A friend of mine makes walking sticks and uses parts of deer racks for the handles. Racks are smaller down this way. If I think of it tomorrow, I'll take a photo of the one he made for me and post it here.

Yeah, that would be interesting to see. Thanks

I'm guessing that if you have some of appropriate width, you could use them to make grips for a 1911 pistol. They could also be made into scales for a straight razor.
