What did you do today 2025

Been busy going to the ranch and working on projects and hiking. I will be heading out shortly for a day in the outdoors. I enjoy hiking to these spots because the last time I was there was a year ago. Spring is a great time of year because life is so prevalent. I also baked a sourdough bread this morning.

Somewhat finished putting in our loft beams. Still have some support brackets to install. We cut them off our property. Split them length wise with a chainsaw and hand hewn them. Been drying for well over a year. Crazy things wouldn't stop slightly twisting.

Almost 90 F out today. Walked the dog early, then shopped for groceries before 9:00 AM.

Contemplated my next driving trip now that the bad weather may be behind us. In other words, did squat for the rest of the day!

Another day, another doctor appointment. I don't need FSD. The car knows its way to Queens Medical complex.

Sunny, no wind, and in the 70s today, so I started Spring clean up outside. Cut a bunch of plants to the ground. Trimmed the junipers. Manually dethatched part of the yard. My neighbor asked if she could have the dead grass. I was happy to unload it on her. My yard waste bin was already full.

It was nice to talk to the neighbors as they walked by as I was working in the front yard. It is so nice to be retired and not in a hurry. I don't know how I ever had time to w*rk.

Managed to squeeze in a quick ski. It was in the 40s and the snow felt like sludge. Good reminder to wax them before the weekend.

I raked up a few wheelbarrows of winter debris and leaves, and then did a low mow to pick up the rest of the sticks and fir cones and whatnot, just ahead of thunderstorms moving through.

(yesterday) filed taxes, getting a refund! That usually doesn't happen.
Also DH and I went to the zoo with daughter, son in-law, grandson (5). Beautiful day, unseasonably warm in the high 70s. Great day spent walking and enjoying time with family.

Out of donuts and feeling real good so I am smoking a rack of three Dino ribs today!
I went to Sam's to get beef ribs a few years ago, and they only had the ribs cut crosswise, so you saw multiple cross-sections of bone in each piece. Strips were 2" or less. I tried to cook them in my smoker (Orion Cooker), but they didn't turn out, so I've been avoiding beef ribs. But your photo might get me to find the right cut of "dino ribs". I bet the name came from the Flintstones cartoon when, at the drive in restaurant, the car tips over when they set the ribs on the side :D

I got the Dino ribs rack (three bone) at Costco. These are the best and really work well for smoking. Audreyh1 just smoked a rack also.

Up early for a 9:00 AM appointment at the hospital to get an MRI done of my lower back in preparation for a procedure next week in which powdered bone mixed with a cement is injected into the deteriorating disc. Yeah, I'm nervous about it but I'm also tired of thinking about managing the pain medications. So we'll see how it goes.

Then paradoxically I go to Home Depot and pick up 480 lbs. of crushed salt (a dozen 40 lb. bags) for the water softener. This should hold us for about a year, probably more, and if the back procedure doesn't go well I'll have time to make other arrangements to get the water softener salt in the house. I did ask for a guy to help load the truck, I wasn't about to try doing that myself. Those days are long gone. Then at home it's a lot easier to lower them off the tailgate into a Gorilla cart and pull it downhill to the basement sliding glass door. It was even easier after I noticed that a couple of the tires didn't have any air in them and I refilled them with air. D'oh!

About halfway done on a 4' x 6' dump trailer. Bought an antique dump trailer in very poor shape last fall ( basically for the tub). $10 !! $50 in fuel to get it. Cut it all apart. Made a new axle/ tongue and welded it to the tub with gussets. Had already repacked the bearings. A hitch and tailgate and it'll be good to go. Could care less about paint. Should make cleaning the stalls/corrals considerably easier!!

I sketched up the home site and location for the power service and sent that off to the PUD, and had a phone Convo with the engineer about it. Looks like we get our own transformer

Checked out our storm shelter to be sure we're ready for tornado season.
In 15 years we've lived here, we only locked ourselves in it three times. Each time we think of things we need to add to the shelter. Last year I wired it for Internet service. Sure helps to know when the danger has passed.

Seems like a lot, in the 12 years I've lived here in Minnesota, I've only been under our staircase once.

Well we had a few Tornado's pass by pretty close (<10 miles) but we have never been hit. The local weather service radio is pretty good about "sounding the alarm" to let us know whats coming our way. Once we go from a Tornado watch to a warning we watch/listen to several weather sources and made our decision accordingly.

Our pup went crazy barking yesterday while I was welding. Looked up but couldn't figure out what the heck he was barking at......then I seen it. Must have been a little microburst knock the outside grill over. Heck I didn't even notice the wind.
That's the closest I want to come towards a tornado!!!!

Most of ours around here are EF0's and EF1's so damage hasn't been "excessive". But we've had a couple of EF2's and one EF3 in the past ~5 years that were within 25 to 30 miles of our house. The damage an EF3 can cause is almost unbelievable "to me". Still, my shelter could probably withstand a EF3. But a direct hit from a EF4 or EF5 and we are gone.

Spent the day with DW (except when she was undergoing a heart catheterization). The procedure itself went very well. Results weren't so good. We see the cardiologist in a couple of weeks. Holding my breath.
