What did you do today 2025

So this morning I went to a podiatrist for the first time ever, to learn that I have plantar fasciitis. I'm hoping that, if I do all the stretches and massaging and such, it will go away without resort to a cortisone shot.
My wife had severe plantar fasciitis, but got tremendous relief from technology. There are special socks and shoes made specifically to deal with it, and even after generally recovering, she still wears the socks quite often.
Talk to the folks at a good running store and they can most likely give you some good advice.

Back in early March, we had a snowstorm with wet, heavy snow. After shoveling, I had tendonitis in both elbows and my right foot hurt. The elbows recovered in about a month but the foot still hurt. During my recent two week road trip we did a lot of walking and my foot hurt even worse the whole time. In the afternoon, I went out to my garden and sowed my first tranche of sweet corn and green beans, as well as my winter squashes (spaghetti, butternut and pumpkin). Pulled some rhubarb stems for the young wife, who is making a crumble as I type this. I will go out tomorrow to get some asparagus.
It’s horrible. I had it for months. The only thing that finally brought relief was rolling a ball under my foot every day. Then one day, it was gone.

The doctors couldn't get rid of my plantar fasciitis. I went 19 months with pain. They finally did an MRI and said the tendon needs to be cut. Last Friday I had it cut and a nerve decompressed. The tendon had gotten so thick it was pulling the bond apart. The doctor said I probably had it for at least 10 years for it to be that bad. I only had pain for the last 19 months.

I wish you well.

This morning I supervised my DDs while I taught them to mow, pull weeds, and clean up. They were very gracious in doing the work while I hopped around on my crutches. I'm thankful for their help and good attitudes.

Did a 4 mile hike up a mountain side with DW this morning. Back home to many chores. Then headed out this afternoon to two of the resale shops we use to pick up funds from sales we’ve had. Had some sushi for dinner. Now watching the momma bird guarding her nest which happens to be under our deck.

Finished up forming a walkway and pattio, all reinforced with steel. Started this 2 weeks ago, but rain has delayed it. Pouring 14 yards of concrete next week.

Did a 4 mile hike up a mountain side with DW this morning.
Every morning I wake up and look out the window at the mountains. Every time I think about moving, I think about how much I would miss hiking in the mountains. Colorado is so amazing for hiking. I can't wait to get back out there.

We watched our oldest grandchild graduate from college with a desirable degree. She married last Christmas to a man who just finished his Ph.D in engineering. They seem to be doing very well and are happy. It appears we will be great-grandparents before the end of the year. It has been a celebratory weekend!

Only because DW wanted to, we went to a restaurant for an early lunch, and since it was literally next door to Home Depot, we went in there for a couple items I'd been planning on getting, followed by a short grocery run to the nearby store. Despite it being Saturday we got lucky and didn't run into any mentionable delays. But I won't bet on that happening again.

Purchased and planted some plants in our Mediterranean garden.

(No, this isn't ours, but what I hope it looks like someday.}

Drove from Cary, NC to Birmingham, AL for the first leg of my drive home today. Staying in a Holiday Inn Express for the night trying to use up all the points I accumulated over my working career.

Should be there by tomorrow late afternoon. Trip total miles will be about 3,000.

Atlanta traffic is bad no matter when you attempt to go through it!

Witnessed a miracle.
In Johnstown, this morning on the way to camp stopped for coffe at one coffee shop I frequent.

A young girl, maybe 20 or so, walked in wearing a dress!
All other females had camel toe revealing skintight pants on.

Then off to camp, had anothor blown over tree blocking driveway, hiked to cabin, lug chainsaw to tree. Made it into small pieces and stacked. Will haul to woodshed sometime.

Then sat on the swing next to the stream and snoozed for a long while.

Loaded up the truck with many of the branches that fell during the wind and rains over the last week along with the millions of weeds DW pulls-she actually enjoys it. Decided to get in a workout at the gym since it's on the way and the kids soccer game I was supposed to ref was cancelled. This was going to be my workout for the day. Evidently games were cancelled because the field was flooded.

Of course at this point I was in the mood for lunch so I stopped at the AC&T gas station and got a two piece chicken meal with scalloped potatoes and green beans. I finally made it to the landfill and unloaded everything. It was very busy there. I guess I'm not used to going on the weekends.

When I got home I took the mower out to get a strip I missed yesterday. These zero turn mowers are so quick I sometimes overlook areas. I was originally just going to let that strip go but it started to drive me crazy because I could see it from my couch while on my laptop.

When we moved to this home in 2015, we brought a tiny seedling from our previous home. It's a tulip poplar, and was smaller than a pencil. It's now 20 feet tall and a beautiful tree, and today it produced its first flower, which means it's fully mature. A great day for our back yard!

Enjoying some quiet time with my morning coffee, decided on a cappuccino today.
We are both resting up from our overnighter with DGS, age 5. We were busy with him this weekend!
He had a whole agenda for us--toy store, , Pizza parlor and arcade for early dinner, ice cream, playtime at the near by park, popcorn and night time movie "Ghostbusters" cartoons, morning protein waffles with almond butter, time in the toy room with Grandma, lunch and playtime at McDonald's and more playtime outside with Papa until 4 pm when Mom and Dad got home.
That kiddo is very specific :)
And wants to plan another time soon, he knows next time will not be so many treats, though.

Just got back home from the funeral mass for our financial advisor, who drowned recently at age 55, leaving his wife and 17-year old twins. I had hoped to speak to his family to let them know how much we appreciated his advice and integrity (he managed only a small part of our investments, knew we had significantly more, and never asked us to give him more business). But there were nearly 300 people there, many who traveled a long distance to be there, so I'll write a nice note on a sympathy card for them. Very sad.

Returned yesterday from attending our granddaughter's college commencement ceremony and watching her younger brother's Spring football game (HS senior in the Fall).

One of my life goals was to hang around long enough to see all five of our grandchildren graduate college and she was number three to make it. I've had to modify my goal as our 20 year old grandson has decided college isn't for him and has entered a four year apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication (welding). So now my goal is hang around long enough to see him to get his journeyman certificate and to see his 17 year old cousin get his degree.

Continuing with tearout of our deck, will be replacing. Started on deckboards today after removing railing over the weekend.

Have decided it really dislike spiral nails

Rainy day today so made a log rack to take to the cabin.

Nothing fancy very crude but will serve the purpose to hold logs for the cabin on the home place.

I used horse hames as the main support to cradle the wood. I just oiled the hames.

Friday we finished plumbing the first of two Shell and core building jobs, got a noon inspection and started backfilling it. Today we finished the backfill, built a ramp into the next one and got started.
Shell and core is a commercial building built on speculation, with no tenants yet. We put a sanitary trunk line in and a grease waste line above that to serve any potential food establishments.
This requires a stepped trench which is a PITA to dig and grade.

They configure the spaces and place demising walls, and they cut the concrete and dig down and hook into that trunk line with bathrooms or kitchen fixtures according to the tenant's requirements.
We call that phase a Tenant Improvement (TI).

Has rained at least 4+ inches, sleet, hail and about 3" of snow on and off over the last few days. Low 30f's Extremely stir crazy so I've went out a couple times each day to burn through a tank of gas in the chainsaw each time. Trying to clear a fence line. Just getting to the fence is difficult as the trees just keep getting knocked over from very heavy snow taking the fence out. Seems like trying to clear a path through the Amazon! Don't think I've moved more than ten foot in three days and the trees are big, lope sided from growing limbs on only one side so they usually spin, fall where u don't want them to. Not to mention on a slope. About as dangerous as any felling I've done!

We replaced our broken outdoor plug. Electrical is DW's area of expertise so she bought a GFI plug and a cover plate at HD. When we got home, I looked at it. The new one is the rectangle face and the plug cover is the old dual face type. Back to HD for a new cover.

Both screws had stripped heads. So I hit them with PB blaster. Got one out but the second one I had to get out the Dremel and cut a new slot. It finally relented.

She rewired it in a few minutes. However the two screws that hold it in place absolutely refused to start. An hour later, after some modifications and swear words we finally got both screws to tighten.

Typical, isn't it? A five minute job that took all afternoon.
