What did you do today 2025

86 degrees and a stiff north wind, but I still earned “Local Legend” on two Strava segments.

I rode my mountain bike this morning in the same wind. No data but I surprised a gigantic Sandhill Crane. It was facing east sunning its wings when I came up behind it. It was tall enough that it was eye-level with me. Like a baby ostrich.

Today I transplanted a couple dozen tomato, pepper and cucumber seedlings from the seed starting trays to peat pots with potting soil. They will still be under the lights in the kitchen for another 10 days to two weeks and then go to larger plastic pots, and finally, after a little cold hardening, out to the garden about mid June.
Today, we finally had a warm 70 F day, so it was time to move some tomatoes and peppers to the the garden. I have transplanted 100 tomato plants (10 heirloom varieties) and 50 peppers (7 varieties) into 4 inch pots, so, some go into my garden, some to the MIL and some to DD. In the garden center, plants of this size go for $5 each, so I am saving a few bucks by doing it myself. Plus I am growing some Peruvian peppers that I have seeds from. We shall see how that goes. Tomorrow should be my last work call from some part time work, so I can say that I am fully retired at 68 - definitely not ER!

I'm a Midwest flatlander and always think about riding in CO, which we have visited many times (RMNP). But the elevation and lack of O2 give me pause. But I'm excited to try! It looks like the difference might be speed (i go 15mph on flat surface) and avg bpm are in the 120 range. Thanks for sharing the stats, makes me think I need to plan a trip with bike!

Weight training, changed oil in truck and had a great chat with a gentleman at recycling center.. gave me more ideas for next home investigation. Sweetie and I went looking at some new construction this evening before bourbon time.🤗

Planted three varieties of sweet corn in my E OH garden (appx 120 seeds) It rained nearly 18 hours today. I had the troth dug and fertilized yesterday; so seed and cover with very moist soil today I hope it germinates before I head south and ready to eat for my return in late July. First time to try this system.

I get up over 20mph on the flats, but when the road tips up, the speed slows down. My heart can spike up to 160 on the really steep stuff.

Gave 8 or 10 vials of blood for 3 different doctors in a single stick. That should satisfy two of the doctors for a year.

Flushed the water heater sediment.

Vacuumed the coils under the fridge.

Buried the drip irrigation line between the house and the raised bed structure.

A day of chores, but my wife returned from her night sky workshop in Moab with a whole bunch of cool stuff.

41 miles on the bike early. The last 20 into a headwind. Stopped to help two elderly ladies trying to figure out a pedal issue.
New great room area rug delivered. Project for tomorrow morning to pull all the furniture off the old one and get it positioned right over the pad.
Cleaned the windows again after a dirty rain last night.
New bike shoes arrived, mounted the cleats.
Sipping a cold beer right now.

Started tearing down an old lambing shed today. Monday I should be able to complete the job.
I had a guy bid on 4 horse bits two antique and a single tree at an auction. Got them cheap total price 14$. I randomly collect old horse bits and the single tree I have a few of them already. I hang this one in the cabin at the ranch.

had a fasting blood draw for starters, then I recovered the dump truck from the repair shop.
Serviced the lawn tractor with new blades, oil, and filters. I already have the blood results and the lipids are awesome, and only a couple of small outliers in the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP).

That was yesterday. Today I was digging up and helping repair a side sewer for one of the plumbers. He'll come up and work on the house rough-in plumbing next month.
We chased the dreaded Orangeburg pipe and then found the city sewer was 6" concrete tile. That was a huge relief, he thought it was orangeburg pipe all the way.

^^^^ I used to live in NY a few miles from the Orangeburg Pipe plant. Nasty place it was, while operational. A huge employer in the area. IIRC WABCO, brakes, some miles away was another. It was shut down and demolished many years ago. Then a few more years to remediate the acres of crud.
Eventually some stores and a restaurant was built on the land.

In other news, yet another rainy day in SW PA.
Indoor sports, as in vacuuming the floors. Then got familiar with a shampoo machine hiding in a closet, my late wife bought it. After a while figured out how to use the the thing. Shampooed all the rugs in the house.
Maybe next week will tackle shampooing some padded furniture. Gotta be careful not to over do this cleaning thing. Might ruin the single male household reputation ;);)

Woke up and went on another morning mountain bike ride. Third day in a row! Better half opted for morning yoga so another solo ride for me.

Today was hiking day with DW. Then laying down the new area rug in the great room. What a mess. So much loose fiber in the new rug. Vacuumed it multiple times. Filled two garbage bags emptying the vac. Rug manufacturer says it’s normal. We’ll see.

Went to the ranch and mowed grass hauled some fencing post and logs to the foothills to store them there. Load a JD tractor and brought it back home with me to work on. I going to advertise to sell it Monday.

The hatch on my Focus finally refused to open with the boot release. Looked it up and it's a common problem. Found a great YouTube video on how to replace it, decided it was within our skill set, ordered the part and today I swapped it out. Was a little tricky since you have to remove all the trim bits on the back of the hatch and then release the switch and reverse camera by pressing in the tabs through some little access holes. My DW helped with that part. After that, it all went well. Cost $80. Dealer wanted $733.00 for the repair.

I got the stitches out of my foot this past Wednesday. Surgery was 3 weeks ago. Today, I was able to get dressed standing after my shower. I got the mail and brought the garbage bin in. I walked around the block while my DD walked the dog. I can walk up and down the stairs with no pain. I'm so excited about my recovery. I still have a long way to go, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to keep my Yellowstone reservations in August.

Tonight, I'll lie down with my foot elevated and watch some UFC and the Knicks/Pacers game.

Took a drive up the river and ended up taking an easy little hike through the grove of sequoias that has the George W Bush tree. Nice day if very warm and a nice 95 mile ride and walk.

Heading south in a couple days...did a sh..load of work. Cut and string trim lawn, prep gas equipment for 7 weeks storage, washed two cars, a golf cart. I had soapy water left over so I washed the exterior service doors, propane tank and air conditioner. With a 270 foot driveway and troth on the shoulder, I cleaned it out for drainage over the summer (otherwise the hilly gravel driveway may suffer wash out). Also started packing; and now enjoying an Elysian IPA. Cheers!

Put in new sump pump. At 65 piece of cake, now at 75, not quite so easy.
lol

Currently smoking a pork butt for a dinner of pulled pork sandwiches.

I have also been installing window air conditioners in between tending to the smoker. Two units down, one to go (but it's the biggest, so I'm taking a rest). I'm glad I convinced the young wife to store the bedroom unit in the closet over the winter, so I didn't have to lug it up the stairs from the garage.
