What did you do today 2026

I'm curious if you have some sort of filtration system, as I don't see one.
The suction end of the intake in the lake has a gravel filled steel filter like this:

Decided to take a few runs at the resort. Not the best conditions, but got my workout in.

Went early this morning while the ground was still firm from over night temps so I could drive into back part of the ranch. I took a sled and went in to pack/sled out that horse driven snow sled they much have used at the ranch. I got all the iron for the snow sled packed by late morning and boogied out of there. Was a lot of work even sledding it out but am excited to rebuild it.

Flew home from Chicago this evening. We flew out on Thursday so the young wife could see a special exhibit of costumes by Paul Tazewell, a costumer designer who recently won an Academy award for his work on the "Wicked" films. So Friday we spent almost all day at the Griffin Museum in that specific exhibit. I did sneak in a short visit to the captured German submarine U-505, but mostly I looked at costumes. We took in the Chicago Art Institute on Saturday, where I was surprised by Seurat's "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte". I have long seen pictures of it, but I had no idea it was physically that large. This morning we went to the Navy Pier. It was a pleasant and sunny day and we enjoyed a nice walk and the views of the city from the end of the pier.
Chicago is a great browsing town. As a kid growing up in Milwaukee it was a treat to take the train to Chicago and visit the museum of Science and Industry.
The one thing I remembered about touring the captured German sub was there was a metal part on it stamped Allis Chalmers, Milwaukee WI.

The tours of the submarine are (of necessity, I suspect) quite cursory, but they are the only way to go inside. As a former submariner, I would have liked to linger.

I would imagine had you told them of your status well ahead of time that you might have an extended tour available.

I lived in Hinsdale back in the late 1950s and visited the MOSI a few times as a kid, not sure if I ever toured the sub.

I was back in Chicago back in late September, 2024 and visited the Robie house along with part of the University of Chicago campus where two of my aunts/uncles got Phds from.

It was a fun sobering time, but I skipped MOSI that time...

We did a back to back closing today. Sold the current house at 9am. Bought the new house at 9:30am. We had a great realtor and builder. We moved a lot stuff we didn’t want the movers to move today, My back feels it right now.
Tomorrow the sound/electronic lady comes to hook everything up. Big movers on Saturday.
We’re excited, but tired.

Surewhitey that looks great!!!

The Spring Break college crowd has arrived at the local resort, so I went cross country skiing this afternoon. With conditions at the resort as poor as they are, it might be a few weeks before the spring breakers clear out and I head back up.

Morning ride and workout, registered for a fly fishing landing net building class. Did some work for the HOA, and grocery shopping for MIL.

Darn that would be a great class to take!!! Keep us posted on that build Ronstar

Got my analog folding bicycle back from the shop. Had a new chainring installed to make it easier to get up hills. Getting ready for Laguna Seca next month, so no e-bike riding until afterwards!

I hooked up the gooseneck trailer and locked the hubs to drag it out of the muddy spot, got it cleaned up, and went to the steel vendor to get the 24' elevator column loaded. I head back today to get it into position in the shaft.

Worked on the restore of the horse driven bobsled. I will need to find a welder for welding and remake one runner. I will do some work today on the wood parts but need to contact someone for welding so I can start assembling things back together.

I set up the brewing system, not to brew, but rather to take pictures... Hoping for Craigslist sale. I offered it with a brewing lesson so the prospective buyer can see how to use it effectively. And as a side effect, ended up cleaning that corner of the garage. Beautiful day to be outside. Next I plan to put on some brake pads.

We've had 2 friends reunion meals in Sarasota while here. Haven't seen one in 30 years... Back in the day I lived in his shop when I was young, dumb & broke. Don't know who I was back then.

Heading to kayak the mangroves today on Lido Key.

Yesterday was a 35 mile e-bike ride down to Venice.

Today I finished cleaning up from yesterday's 13 inches of snow. Then I used the roof rake and removed all the snow from the house and garage roofs (I did the metal carports yesterday) in anticipation of tomorrow's snowpocalypse. I also topped off the snowblower fuel tank.

"...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM SUNDAY TO 4 PM CDT MONDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 18 and 24 inches, with locally higher amounts to 30 inches possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph may result in considerable blowing and drifting snow and near blizzard conditions late Sunday into Monday.
"

Hopefully the power stays on throughout this weekend. We're about to go to the grocery store to stock up on provisions. Don't want to buy too much in case there is a power outage.

Finished moving in.
Hired professional cleaners to clean the old house tomorrow. We turn the keys over to the new owner on Monday. We now can slowly bring order back to our life. #movingishell.
