What did you do today 2026

I was woken at 7:30 from a dead assed sound sleep mid dream by my wife wondering "aren't you going to yoga?" She offered to start the car for me while I gathered myself, so I agreed, and made it just on time. I wouldn't have gone if not for that act of kindness, both getting me out of bed but also starting the car. I was going to blow it off.

Now I'm going to take a 2 mile walk. It's sunny but windy/gusty and I want to get that done while warm.

While I had the snow blower partially apart yesterday I noticed the friction wheel was looking a bit worn so since I had a spare on the shelf (it's a normal wear part) I went ahead and replaced that too. Then after all was reassembled I ordered a new one. This is one of those things you want to have handy, like a set of belts for it, so you don't get stuck having to spend hours shoveling snow when with some foresight you could have spent 30 minutes with a working snow blower.

Then today I spread five 40 lb. bags of lawn fertilizer over the front and back yard. I'm gonna take the rest of the day off.

funding the hsa is such a satisfying "check" on the to-do list. tbh it’s basically the ultimate retirement hack that most people sleep on. starting the year with a "boom" is a solid way to set the tone for 2026. hope the rest of your year is just as productive lol.

I figure fixing up the blower is insurance against needing it. Your lot must be huge to use 200 lbs. I hear there may be a big jump in pricing, possible shortage. I usually get it at end of season clearance sale but haven’t taken inventory yet. Today I am <still> getting leaves up that seem to blow from all the other yards into mine. I did buy 5 6ft arborvitae today and hauled them home.

Vacuumed and started some laundry before going on a hike with my better-half and the dogs.

I set up the brewing system, not to brew, but rather to take pictures... Hoping for Craigslist sale. I offered it with a brewing lesson so the prospective buyer can see how to use it effectively.
If it doesn't sell easily, you might consider what I did when I gave up homebrewing. After many years of tinkering, it had become a fairly sophisticated quarter-barrel system, and I offered it to a local microbrewery to use as a pilot system to test out new recipes. They were delighted and immediately took me up on it. I didn't even need to be paid for it, but they insisted, and put it to use right away.

Tenor section practice for my chorale group. We have a concert at the end of the month. We are performing Faure's "Requiem" and Rheinberger's "Stabat Mater", with orchestra.

I went to town on a beer run.

The weather service promised us a big old 3 day blizzard starting tonight here in SW MN. Turns out a lot of folks I know went to town for the same reason, I met them.

Then I filled up the gas on my snowblower and took out some extra shear pins and got some extra gas ready. We're predicted to get up to 16" of snow with 60 MPH wind so we may have some drifts taller than me.

I'm ready. I have a crock pot of elk burger chilli ready, along with home made bread for tomorrow. I the blizzard lasts into Monday I'm making venison stew.

I'll be dissapointed if we don't get this blizzard we are promised.

Yep I kind of like those blizzards once and a while just for the down time. Sometime nice to caught up on things in the house or a project to start or finish. It gives me the excuse to stay home and relax catch up on a good book etc...
We got a few inches but I see your part of the world and Wisconsin in for some heavier snow amounts.

Have fun!!

Just got done trying to "spend" a Groupon...an exercise in frustration.

It sounded good: $50 Dinner and a Movie for Two

After poking around a while, I discovered that the groupon would get me points on restaurant.com. Ooookay. Then you are offered "deals" (at places you've never heard of and probably never go). The deals are $X off if you spend $3X. So to spend your $50, you'd need to have a tab of $150! Basically the "deal" is they pay the tax and tip, but you end up going out to dinner and paying almost as much as you would without the "deal".

Then the movie. That's a separate emoviecashreward.com site. That site wasn't too fussy to "cash" the groupon, but they don't have a place to type in a zip code to find participating theaters. Thanks to the LLM, I was able to find a somewhat local participating theater. They said I could apply the voucher for an online ticket, but the web site said I had to redeem at the box office. So no advanced seat selection.

So it should have been billed as: Go to an unpopular restaurant that's farther away than you want to drive and pay almost as much as you would without a coupon, and then try to go to a movie at a distant theater where they will probably reject your voucher. :)

This is the perfect gift to buy for someone you don't like. That's at least an hour I'll never get back. But I'm done now. Sorry. Where's that daily rant thread when you need it?

Got my analog folding bicycle back from the shop. Had a new chainring installed to make it easier to get up hills. Getting ready for Laguna Seca next month, so no e-bike riding until afterwards!

Would “Laguna Seca next month” be Sea Otter? I’m on the fence for the 3 lap gravel race.

Well, at least you found out the pitfalls before you were going to buy it, not after. Imagine how upset you would be. :)

Dealing with Ohio house (wind storm Friday), DW no electric for 45 hours. It came back on around noon. House got down to 54 degrees...she was okay with it -no heat at all. Separate issue there...downed trees on my property. Meanwhile in CFL, experienced the heaviest rain all winter (our dry season). 12,000 lightning strikes reported in CFL this afternoon. Feeling like a farmer...weather is never right.

Done clearing out DMIL's driveway and unburying her car. DW and DMIL helped shovel around the car, and I used the snowblower, so we had it done in around an hour.

Off to my weekly piano lesson soon! Didn't practice as much as I should have this week, but I'll blame Mother Nature.

Edit: Lesson was cancelled.

No notice until I drove there and they told me. This is the second time this has happened, but there's no other choice in my neck of the woods.

I guess I get another week to practice!

Lost power from 12 midnight to 5am.

Turned UPS's back on. Updated TurboTax on the Win 11 boat anchor.

Wrote a check to my friend, and chatted later.

Had a client, went to the bank, grocery shopping, and now relaxing a bit. I will be packing up the rest of the Kitchen stuff, serving trays and bowls. This will mark the end of packing/donating/garage sale stage for everything that was in the closets, kitchen cupboards, and bathroom cabinets. 3 weeks till the Realtor takes pictures and lists the house for sale.

Stayed home today and worked on the rebuild of a bobsled. I worked all day basically on one of the largest piece of wood that is part of the sled.

A lot of forming with angle grinder with the wood carbine disk and hand tools to get for everything it fit. A lot of holes need drilled of different sizes for different pieces of metal that attaches. A lot more work involved then I thought but will putz with it on days that the weather is bad or if I'm at home.

I had another 1200 pounds of construction demo to take to the dump. I have a pattern going. Bust arse for a couple of days, get a hundred flights of stairs in, then recover for a day.

Dropped a friend off at airport this morning who was visiting for the last week. Then finished up my sister's taxes as well as a trust's taxes I prepare. Not a very fun day with taxes, but I had most of them done already. Just final checking and then filing or mailing.

I already completed and filed our personal taxes, and have received the refund. So preparing taxes are done for this year.

Yes! 3 lap Brompton race, so not the average bicycle race. Got a new low gear chainring installed, lowest now 26 gear inches. No visible Lycra allowed, so ordered a skort and a collared button-up shirt for proper attire.

Landscaper should finish today. Fence guy will install the wickets today, then gates next week. Got some of the new furniture delivered yesterday. Balance should be here April first.
We had a herd of deer and a pack of wild turkeys behind us. Very quiet, dark for sky viewing, backyard. The dogs love it too.
