What did you do today 2026

One of my TPMS sensors failed so I made an appointment at Costco to have them replaced: $250.00

I have 20,000 miles on the current set of Michelin PS4's. They don't have much tread even when new, so I decided to see how they are doing. Laid on the floor with a flashlight, all looked good until the last one. Inside of the tire, totally corded. Ugh. Cancelled my TPMS appointment and looked at tires. Time to find a set that has high performance but might last more than 15,000 miles. Costco only shows ultra high performance tires like I have now, so on to Tire Rack.com where I found a nice set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 tires and new sensors.

Will get them ordered and installed once we return from our Florida trip.

Almost finished the desk for my client's gift for their father. Made a slight mistake at the very end... Pretty obvious unfortunately.

Late AM dentist appointment for routine cleaning. Turns out I'll need another crown (this will make three) and have an old filling redone. Bummer to learn that fillings don't last as long as I do.

Cleaned up gear and my wife's car (drove for gas mileage) after a two night outdoor trip, including washing a backpack I'm sending in for warranty repair or replacement.

Packed for a weekend trip with my wife to visit friends.

My treadmill walk this morning was interrupted by the phone ringing at 5:40 a.m. Luckily I installed a rotary-phone in the basement so I could answer it after the first ring. (DW was still sleeping)

Turns out DMIL started her car this morning and let it run for a few minutes while she had her final smoke before driving to her j*b. When she started her car, she thinks she might have bumped the 'alarm' button on the key, as the factory car alarm started going off. So she 'pushed a bunch of buttons until it stopped beeping'. (She's 70) Then she got out to have her smoke. When she finished up and tried to get back in the car, all four doors were locked, the car was running, and the key was in the ignition! Of course, she only got one key with the car when she bought it used last fall. Not knowing what to do, she called us.

So I drove over there, picked her up, brought her to w*rk (only one minute late!) and then drove home to do some research. I looked it up, actually found a you-tube video about the exact car (I rarely watch videos) and figured out a plan of attack. Then I drove back over there, was able to lightly pry the passenger front door open and hook a little 'lasso' I had made (out of an old piece of knob-and-tube wire that was laying on the basement workbench) around the lock knob and use it to pull it up to unlock the door. Took me less than 15 minutes to get the door open.

Then I pushed the button to unlock all 4 doors, took the key from the ignition, packed up my tools and headed back home - with a stop an McD's drive-thru to pick up two breakfast sandwiches and two hash browns for breakfast for DW and myself. (so much for starting the day with a 2-mile walk and a healthy breakfast)

Later, the two of us went back over there, brought DMIL's car to a nearby stealership to order a second key (it'll take a week to get here, and then require programming once it arrives) before bringing the car to where she w*rks, brought the key inside to her, and then we headed back home.

Tomorrow I have to make the trek to Escanaba, MI where I volunteer to be a judge at the FIRST Robotics district event weekend, so tonight I'm packing my little overnight suitcase before I set the alarm for 3:45 a.m.

Busy day!

35 mile bike ride with 2500 ft of climbing all with a gusty wind, but it was an almost perfect 77 degrees.
Also did the 30 day punch list walk with our builder. Not much needs attention.

Lots of yard work. Put gas in my truck. Cost more than my monthly car payments on my first new car in 1974.
I filled my tank the other day. It was only $25.

To be fair, it was still almost 1/2 full when I 'topped it off' before my upcoming weekend trek to Escanaba, MI and back home.

Perhaps I shouldn't complain about needing to replace the OE tires on my Mazda before 40K miles.

Three hours of pickleball early this morning on a private court. Then home to do a couple's project: installing a ceiling fan in the living room. It was pre-wired for one, but we still managed to spend most of the rest of the day getting it right. The rattlesnakes are out with the warm-up in Tucson. Saw one on the dog walk today stretched out across the sidewalk.

Drove to ranch to check on things. Had a piece of tin end cap blow off with the strong winds we had for a few days. I reattached it installed some new black plastic on a spot to be ready to pant melons next month. Picked up SD cards and took a long walk.
This afternoon I changed oil on lawn mower serviced and put away snow blower and got the snow dog stored away till next winter. I also went up on the roof and installed chalking under a hand full of shingles that were lifting a little in the wind we had. They were from early winter when I had to replace a few and they never had a chance to seal/stick down because of cold weather when they were installed.

Got up early and went in to my church to process the latest batch of donations and other receipts, made the deposit at the bank, then shopped at Walmart. Came home and serviced my roto-tiller in anticipation of my garden opening on Saturday. Up-potted some seedlings and set some of the bigger ones out to cold harden. Inventoried the stuff we will need for our river cruise next month and order several things online to fill the gaps.

Wind was gusty. Took the pups for a walk but otherwise stayed indoors and cleaned up around the house.

Raining today. Bike stayed warm and dry in the garage. Instead I hit the gym.

One hour and 6.4 miles of intervals on the elliptical.

Now relaxing in the jacuzzi while the clouds roll by.

What I WILL do Today….Saturday 4/11 (as I’m awake at 2:30AM thinking about all of this)….
-Finish preparing my taxes in Turbo Tax so I can file my extension (with payments) before leaving on our almost 2 week trip to Europe TOMORROW to take a Viking River Cruise.
- this morning, go watch my 7 year old grandson’s first spring Hockey League game in a nearby town (Hockey season never ends ) with his mom (my daughter)
- then rush over to the baseball field in our town, to meet my SIL as he prepares to coach my grandson’s first baseball game of the season. I need to “watch” my 3 year-old granddaughter who will be with him until my daughter arrives. She will bring said Grandson after doing the “quick change” from Hockey equipment to baseball attire and equipment for his game.
- Go home and pack for the Europe vacation we’re leaving for on Sunday.
- Go to Staten Island to visit my other daughter, SIL and my 2 granddaughters (ages 14 and 12) before our trip and wish the girls luck in their dance competition NEXT weekend which we will miss due to being away! 😢
- come home to prep house for being away for 2 weeks as spring arrives in NJ (set automatic lawn sprinklers, etc).
- Finalize all travel plans and documents for the trip including packing meds, electric adapters and cords (needed in hotels) and cruise provided travel tags to ID our luggage for transfers.
- try to get to sleep at a reasonable hour and hoping for a better night’s sleep than tonight.

Yes, a lot to do but we are blessed to be able to do ALL these things and have our family nearby to share these great times with!
Have a good and busy (or relaxing) weekend all!

100 year old FIL is mid-way thru a two week cruise. He travels quite a bit and always comes back sick.

In anticipation, dear wife is making medical appts for next week. The cycle is typically; FIL comes home very sick, off to the ER we go, couple days in the hospital, week or two at rehab, and released home with home health, a calendar full of follow-up appointments and bags of new prescription meds.

A month after he gets back and dear wife and I get him nursed back well enough, off he’ll fly for a couple weeks in Cambodia.

Reading this makes me want to take a nap.

Wow - thats a busy day. Enjoy your trip.

This morning I got the sunken patio area cleaned up with all the old leaves that blew in from the winter storms. Cleaned out the planter boxes in the same area. Started looking through boxes of big boating gear that I no longer need as we sold the big girl. Tag sale maybe? Not sure. This afternoon is an onion planting event in our shared community garden. Always fun getting your hands dirty. Then I may get some paint on the hull of my little boat I am building depending on garage temps. May have to wait on that. And not joking I literally went through my sock drawer

DS and DGS showed up late last evening, DGS wanted to come spend the weekend with us.
DS and DGS are now off to his school track meet. DGS runs cross country. It's a bit rainy this morning, so we stayed home this time. There will be others to go see :)

The community garden opened for the season, so I went out this morning and tilled my whole 1200 sqft. plot, laid out the growing beds and the paths, and weeded some. I'll probably go out tomorrow to set out the cabbage, broccoli and kale that I started in the kitchen, then sow beets, carrots, radishes and arugula.

Nice! We have a different set up in that the garden is not separated into plots for people - it is one space and you can pay a small fee and join. Work is expected and you can take as much as you wish. Communal garden? Peas went in last week, leeks are in and today we planted six raised beds of several types of onions. Next week will be lots of stuff going in.

I injured my thumb biking, so no more biking for a few weeks. Instead I took the pups for a long walk. It's windy out there today so not much else to do.
