What did you do today 2026

Third time biking the lake in past few days. Need to get in shape for Europe in June...

Vacuumed the floor in the project bedroom, then put down plastic. Took down window trim from both windows.

Then I removed the drywall patch below one window, and succeeded in removing all the plaster from that wall.

Here's a photo:

Tomorrow I'll get all that lath off that wall.

My day was nothing spectacular, but got rid of my 45 year old balsa R/C glider. My plan was to drive over to the AMA R/C field and just leave it there. I figured there would be nobody there on a weekday afternoon. Wrong! There were 4 guys there, and one of them apparently affilliated with the local club. He said he'd put up the glider, which needed a lot of TLC, into a raffle. He was sure there were people that would love the challenge to get her in the air again.

40 miles, 3000 feet of climbing on a gorgeous 63 and sunny day. No bike riding now for a week. Off to celebrate my oldest sister’s 80th Birthday in San Diego.

Have a safe trip!

I tried to post this, but I have to kill some time typing this. If you just hit 'reply' and then type the above line, then click on 'Post Reply', you get this:

Thank you. The whole extended family will be there so it will be a blow out. My BIL said our family can suck the air out of a room. We’re all a little animated, to say the least.

Today my wife and I had a late start. Got up after 8am, Had coffee on the verandah and watched chickens peck on the grass. Read about 20 pages of a James Paterson book I am reading while she looked at skin care Tiktoks. After that had a very light breakfast, went to the gym for two hours then after lunch went on a 3 hour hike up some pretty incline terrain. Now we are spent, she went to sleep while i look at portfolio. Getting ready to go outside and walk barefoot on grass (on the opposite side of where chickens were) and do 15 minutes of grounding. Then is off to bed.

Continued on the upstairs bedroom project. Got all the lath removed...

Then I went to the orange big-box home improvement store and picked up some spray-foam insulation, (both the stuff made for around windows and the crack-filler, too) some extra 2X4s for framing, some 1-inch foam board, and 4 sheets of drywall.

Next step: cut the foam to fit between the studs, then spray-foam the edges to seal all the air gaps.

It's 74.8ºF outside today, yet I still have snow in the yard, so no barefoot walking on the grass here yet.

(with these temperatures, it should be gone soon)

At the dentist's office at 0830, out at 1030 with my new permanent crown. A lot easier than the first one about 30 years ago. But at the same price; after insurance, just under $900. So not everything is costing more. And it's custom made in 20 minutes. Pretty neat.

My dentist makes crowns in house too. I love it!

Started seeds in my kitchen light stand for tomatoes (Amish Paste, Mortgage Lifter, Brandywine, Principe Borghese and Sungold), cukes (Little Leaf and Summer Dance), zukes, eggplant, bell peppers, serranos, jalapenos, hot cherry peppers, cantaloupes and basil. Went over to church and mowed the lawn.

Since it was so nice out (75º!) today, we went to a nearby town and got some deli fried/baked chicken, side dishes, and some bakery cookies, then brought our little picnic dinner to a park on a lake.

I didn't bring my camera, but here's a 2023 photo from Google Map Street View:

We sat in the little gazebo with a nice view of the lake. 2/3 of the lake was still covered in ice, but it was still a nice romantic outing for us.

I attended my former employer's Quarter Century Club gathering this evening. I got inducted way back in 1997.

The lamb chop appetizers and the wine were decently good but the sit down dinner as usual was grade B blah.

I only knew a few of the new 25-year inductees, but I knew 4 out of 5 of the 50-year inductees.
I retired in 2013 and would have had to stay employed at least half time for nine additional years to get to the 50 year mark.
That wasn't really one of my goals...

Today I stained the deck. It’s pretty large, takes about 3 gallons and I skipped balusters and trellis. I like painting, especially outside in beautiful weather and no ladders. Listened to oldies half the time and nature the other half. DW has been super anxious about this chore for some reason but she’s happy for now. Now I’m further behind weeding and reseeding the lawn

Stayed around again a snowy morning but beautiful!!! 70 degrees one day the next snowy. Lol Makes life interesting.
Took a long walk and stopped by second hand store and bought a almost brand new push broom for 1 buck. Always looking for a deal it is my frugal genes at work once again.

Morning drive across state border with friend to get his plane after annual. But we came home empty handed. While breaking in new brakes on runwy found nose gear steering was off. Disassembled to find a new part to order and a return trip next week. 11 hours later we are home again. A fun day outside of the plane mishap. But he was happy. Root cause of a mildly annoying problem discovered and will be corrected.
