What did you do today 2026

The bedroom project is progressing nicely. All walls, trim, and baseboards are painted. The last step will be the door and then window coverings.

Since I caulk all the trim, I make sure 100% of the caulk gets covered with paint so it doesn't discolor with age. First I 'overpaint' the seams...

Then I come back with the wall color using a clean 1-inch brush...

I cleaned up the original 1910 door latch/lock mechanism...

Next step will be to boil the rest of the door hardware in a vinegar/water solution on the stovetop to remove the old paint.

It's been a productive couple of days.

Did the free credit freeze at the Big 3 credit bureaus for DM. She doesn’t have credit cards any more.

More dry wall stacking, and now I am warming up the house for my wife's first visit tomorrow. It has been months since she has been here and her bestie is bringing her up.
I want her to experience the radiant heat along with everything else that has changed.

With temps approaching 90°, sun blazing and water temp hitting the magical 75° mark, I went for my first “swim” of the season, which means I got wet. :) And it was an excuse for a delicious margarita made with fresh squeezed lime juice and a muddled halo orange. Cheers!

lol....It's all relative, isn't it? In Florida my sweet spot is 84 - 86 degrees. I put on a wet suit below 78.

Yeah, 75° was a little chilly, but I couldn’t resist. I prefer 80-83° and have a chiller on the pool to make sure it doesn’t turn into a spa. The first few summers after building it, the water would get into the 90s by July 4. The chiller keeps it below 85° all summer now. Amazing how much difference a few degrees makes.

Had my first flat after 13 miles in on the bike ride with the guys. Took an Uber back home and ordered 2 new tubes, liners for the rims & tires & a CO2 inflator to pack along with me... Fool me once.
Yep, you gotta self rescue. I ran tubes and liners for years with good luck. Then switched to tubeless. They are a bit more work to make sure they are topped off with sealant, but don’t require much effort if they get a puncture. They’ll self seal. You can ride at lower air pressures too and that helps the ride quality. I ride at 60 psi vs over 100. You will notice the difference right away. My riding is all pavement.

I complain it is hot at 78 degrees when I golf and go sleeveless (with sunsleeves) and shorts.

Air temperature and water temp are non complimentary. When the air is hotter than the water, the water is refreshing; conversely, when the water is warmer than the air ; the air is a cold rush when leaving the warm pool.

I had chicken paprikash for lunch, went to a memorial consisting of shoes on the bank of a river and visited the Unicum distillery.

I usually have ~90 in both mine. We were going a different path on pavement and some @sshats threw a few beer bottles from their car & I found them. We try to stay on well traveled paths with this exception.

Found $750 in the grass in my back yard.

After losing a hearing aid while doing some yard work a few years ago, I learned my lesson and always remove them first - except this time. When I parked the mower this morning and headed for the shower I discovered one was missing. Unlike DW's hearing aids, mine don't have a location feature so the most accurate location information available was that it was somewhere within a roughly a 150 foot circle where it would link via bluetooth to my phone.

Searched off and on for a couple of hours, then gave up and made an appointment at Costco to purchase a replacement. They will replace it free if the loss is within two years of the purchase date, which in my case expired in March, so a replacement was going to be on my dime.

Decided to give it one more try, and found it within 5 minutes. Yippee.

Replaced the pressure washer pump in my pressure washer. It should have been easy but it had been on so long it was locked hard onto the engine shaft.

Woke up early and went for a mountain bike ride with the better-half before lunch.

Then I spent some time putting together the new wheel loft in the garage before I was convinced to go for a hike with the pups.

Since I was already 3 activities deep into sweatiness I went ahead and weed whacked the yard.

Showering up before sausage sammies for dinner tonight!

The small glasses of beer along with giant cathedral gave it away. Then I remembered you must be on that Viking cruise of the Rhine. Hope you are having a great time.
One of my favorite places to visit - having a Kolsch (or two or four) while sunning in the square near the Cathedral.
