What did you do today 2026

Today was junk mail reduction day for DM. I signed DM up for:
  • DirectMail.com National Do Not Mail list (free)
  • DMAChoice Do Not Contact postal list ($8 by CC)
  • CatalogChoice.com (free)
I feel like I already signed DM up at OptOutPrescreen.com years ago via postal mail so didn’t try again. But I should verify.

I’m considering how to sign DM up for Paper Karma. Have to figure on whose phone to install the app (mine, DM’s) and how to pay for the in-app purchase can’t use CC and don’t want ongoing subscription. Thinking of using one of my phones and buying an Apple Gift Card to apply to the one-time lifetime purchase.

Heading out to watch DGS (10) cross country meet this afternoon.
He did well two weeks ago and qualified for state meet today! Proud of him for doing so well, he has worked hard to improve his running over the past two years.
Also, in a way, frustrated that they have the "pressure" for state and other qualifications so young.

Another Murphy to Manteo trip over the weekend.

Down to a relative's to pick up an old pick up truck for the kid.

~4.5 hours there, ~1 hour paperwork/lunch.

And over 6 hours back..."Skywatch One reporting heavy traffic."

Fixed the fence as I get ready for hurricane season. One post, two stringers, hardware and a sack of cement....$40 and 3 hours.

The doors fit like a glove and everyone is happy for no-mosquito season.

Nice early morning ride 40 miles 15.2 avg mph.
Spent the afternoon planning garage rehab. 33 yr old home the horizontal tape joints are coming loose and splitting. I see recommendations to use hot mud to re-adhere this tape or replace the separated tape completely. Any thoughts? I have never used hot mud and don't have extensive drywall mud experience! Mostly just small repair stuff. I would guess I will have 40 linear feet of tape to repair

I never liked the idea of hanging drywall horizontally. When I restored the home that we sold in 2018, I hung all the drywall vertically so the tapered joints/seams were always over the studs. All the drywall I've hung in our current 1910 home has been installed vertically as well, so the only horizontal edges are at the floors/ceilings and window openings and/or are under trim, so not seen.

Best of luck on your repairs. I'll be curious to see the results.

Good point, that had not occurred to me. Since the garage has 9ft ceiling I assume that was the driver back in the day.

Yesterday, wife and I paid for lunch for our son's Family. We had to drive a few hours to get there. DIL ordered anything they wanted and when we got to town we would pick it up come eat with them visit an hour and drive home. Got to see the girls and had a great day even though a lot of driving was money well spent.

Almost done with the bedroom project. Installed the door hardware and hung the door this morning.

Now it looks almost like it did 116 years ago.
Very nice!!! I been following your restoration and enjoyed your work. I was raised and lived in a home with similar architecture also in the same age area. When my parents married they each had an old vehicle and they traded one vehicle for the home to start there life. The home today is still in use and I plan to travel there this summer to see it again. It is about 6 hours away from where I live today.

It's not even noon yet, but...house went on the market last Thursday. Sixteen showings so far with 4 more scheduled for today so I have to get out of the house soon. Lots of excitement but the sole offer so far has been $350K (asking price $400K) contingent on selling their place, which isn't on the market yet. Nope. Another offer is due to come in and I hope it's better than that.

Realtor sends a 4-question e-mail for feedback. Two amusing responses on what would keep them from making an offer: "It's in (name of town)". Yes, this is a cul-de-sac of architects' originals in a place with not-so-great demographics but if it were in a ritzier suburb it would cost more. The other had replied that it appeared to be priced at market rate but what would keep them from making an offer was "price". I did get one HGTV addict whose response said they were considering the cost of upgrades they wanted to make. I've been in this house 11 years and I've made upgrades nearly every year- replacing windows, adding plantation shutters, putting in more hardwood floors, quartz countertops in kitchen, enclosing back deck to make a 3-season room...I could go on. Nothing trendy or over-the-top.

And I'm off to the blood bank soon to make my 100th donation (over 20+ years). I'm going to be on their FB page!

grocery shopping is on tab today, both Safeway and Costco.

Vacuuming the pool and cleaning the pool deck. Walking around the backyard barefoot and enjoying the sun. Love this time of year!

One of the volunteers at the senior center was out with a medical emergency, so I filled in for her this morning. Before leaving, I took the pups out for a breezy walk just a few minutes before the rain started.

I decided to pass up a golfing opportunity to get some work done around the house.

Finally cleared out a bunch of metal, wire, and old computer parts and took them to a recycling store. I received $95 for my junk. I'll try not to spend it all in one place 😂 .

Re-gripped six of my golf clubs.

Had a text and phone conversation with one brother that ended up as a conference call with another brother and sister. Catching up on a couple of things generated questions led to getting additional folks involved.

Finally installed a shelf in a tall outdoor shed. The melamine board I used had to be cut down to a certain shape to fit. I got the job done with a compact circular saw and jig saw. Now I have more storage area to help with organizing, yay!

Will be eating dinner soon with DW, then may wash at last one of the cars before twilight.

Went to the dermatologist for the first time in 45 years. She checked everything over and said I didn't need anything but suggested annual visits for the foreseeable future. As much time as I've spent outside and in the sun, I'm feeling fortunate. Several of my new friends in AZ have been sliced/diced this year.

Well, good for you on all fronts. Donating the gift of life is a very kind thing to do, Thank You! The home has a lot of interest I doubt it will be on the market long I hope you get what you want or better.

Removed cabinets from pool patio and made site ready for new patio shed for storing all pool equipment. Also, plumbing inspector is scheduled for tomorrow's repipe review. Also staged the repaint of exterior plumbing and old cabinet stucco backing. Busy Tuesday heading my way as FedEx will deliver the shed as well.
