What did you do today 2026

Knocking out the HSA on Day 1 is a major flex. Nice work.

I waited entirely too long to have my first hip replacement done. Second one will be done in about three months with any luck...
I'm past both hips being done (6/2009, 8/2017). On to the knee and a shoulder is waiting in the wings...too much sports over several decades. But all is good.

Just watched some turkeys battle.

Started at 7:10am, played 14 holes and started to get dizzy in the heat and bailed. Today's high is supposed to be 112 degrees F.

Over the weekend I took apart the older of my two Torqeedo batteries (this was a 400 watt-hr original capacity battery that is about 15 years old). I made a resistor divider board to trick the bms into seeing individual cell voltages from a single voltage input and also wired a fixed resistor on the thermistor input. Sealing the whole thing back up with a Wal-mart plastic cutting board drilled to fit the existing gasket, I then brought out 4AWG wires through waterproof glands to a 120 amp Anderson powerpole connector.

Took it out on a small lake today with two of my 12V 165AH batteries in series and ran at full throttle (about 1000 watts) for 3 hours. The 916 watt-hr other Torqeedo battery I have would have only lasted 45 to 50 minutes but when we got back to the dock I still had ~30% left in the 12V batteries. Just a fun day tinkering and getting some life back into the old Torqeedo 1103 without shelling out $1200 for a spare 916 watt-hr battery (way overpriced!).

Orangetheory had their 12 minute treadmill benchmark. I was able to run 1.24 miles, a little bit better than the last time I did the benchmark.

I used to be able to run over 2 miles easy in 12 minutes, but again, that was 30+ years ago.

Ronstar that was pretty cool to get a video. Lol I have seen jakes do it often nit sure what the action means but very interesting.

Today I salvaged up some tin roofing that was being replaced on a large storage unit. I stop and asked if I could buy some of the old roofing. They said help yourself and didn't want anything for it all going to the junk. So I went home got my generator and some tools. The sheets were 24 feet long so I cut them in 8 footers to haul to the ranch. I had an old friend stop and he had a steel cutter and did the cutting for me and helped me load. The start to finish with him helping took about 40 minutes. I can always use tin at the ranch. I then hauled it out there and did some other work while I was there. A great day in paradise.

Played some good pickleball with my new Engage ProFoam paddle. I really like the feel and power. It's funny, I was more anxious waiting for this paddle to arrive than I was picking up my new car a month ago.

Finished up a four day visit with my mother who lives in a CCRC in Iowa. After a full year living there, she knows everyone from the residents to the staff. She kept thanking us for making it happen. In truth, it was her idea.

Ran some errands with DW, washed her car and vacuumed it. Then changed the engine oil and filter in my Jeep. Jeep is super easy since it is lifted with big tires. Just slide under and undo the drain plug, then up top of the engine is the canister type filter. So barely any mess at all; and no need to drive on ramps or jackstands to get under it.

Here's a kind of crazy statistic: I have only driven the Jeep 15k miles in the past 5 years! It's a 2015 and it still only has 48.5K total miles.

Gemini says that's a 9:41 mile pace.
Be proud of your accomplishment. Think of those who wish they could run that fast. Or who can't get to the starting line in the first place.

After dinner tonight, I took a painted (but chipped and peeling) exterior steel door off the hinges and set it up on sawhorses. Brushed a thick coat of paint stripper on it and let it sit for a half hour. Then I scraped off all the paint that would come off into a bucket. Cleaned the stripper off with orange goop, then took 120-grit sandpaper and sanded the door down to bare steel.

Tomorrow I'll tackle the other side, then re-sand both sides before applying 2 coats of spray primer.

Got my new driver's license and car registration this morning, so I'm officially moved from the old state. I wanted to do it toward the end of June so my income tax residency will be 50% in each state. Just simpler that way.
Small town with a very friendly and helpful motor vehicle office, which was a delightful change from my previous experience in this state.

We're off grid on solar, Gen back up.
Keeping stock tank open in winter requires more gen use.
We have 6-12" soil on mountain rock so thinking if we had a concrete stock tank sitting right on the mountain, it could help with keeping the water open?
SO...last couple days we built forms and concreted a stock tank!
Of course being frugal, I should have used heavier material for the forms!
Praying as we were pouring that that concrete didn't blow out!
Ran out of concrete so had to finish the next morning.
No blowouts but we do have a "bulging " tank.
Great Lord willing, we'll be able to flip it and use as described!
What a fiasco! DW was NOT impressed with my so called enginuity!
I need a YouTube channel for our, (my) ingenious activities!!!

:2funny: I bought the DW a new Hyundai in late June of last year. She wanted a certain model, color and options. They found one but they had to drive it over from another dealership ~100 miles away. So when we picked it up it had a little over 100 miles on it. This week she hit 1500 miles. So she's driving less than 1500 miles a year or less than 125 miles a month.

We don't even drive it to the gas stations for a fill-up. About every ~6 weeks I just pour in a spare 5 gallon can of gas from around the shop and she's good to go.
