What did you do today 2026

Went for a motorcycle ride to breakfast. Was nice temps, about 70 and sunny here at 2700' elevation. But at the 6,100' summit it was cloudy and cold. Well, maybe a little under 60. Should not have worn that summer jacket that flows lots of air. Brrr.

Today's tasks, after I finish coffee and reading the forum, is grocery shopping and checking my garden flowers. We had a horrendous downpour yesterday and last night, so will see if any stems are broken and need trimming. But am thankful for the rain we did have.
Odd weather pattern this week, but will soon be back to dry, sunny and in the 80s according to the news.

Watching the weather/smoke again today. We had a few lightning strikes, a couple of days ago, which started several wild fires in the area. I heard that 5 firefighters had to deploy their fire safety tents yesterday. Looks like 3 died. So sad.

We have friends that are near the area and very close to the current "Set", "Ready" line. If they end up in the 'Go" area all 10 are coming to our house. They have 8 rescue animals.

A bit of a scare yesterday evening.
Wildfire less than a mile from our place.
What an idiot, I noticed the smoke in the valley around noon but blew it off as fog as I was preoccupied busy..
About four pm we started hearing helicopters and air planes very steady flying low above our place. Walked to back side of our property and seen the fire.
It had poured the rain Friday but they've been logging in that are and have huge slash piles which I don't think were on fire thank the great Lord!
Loggers are also within a 100 yards of our land so hoping they make a good fire break around two sides of us that adjoin the huge ranch they're logging.
Fire is out now, thank the great Lord!
The wildland firefighters are bad asses and do a great job!

I ran a full 5K without pain today. I've been fighting hip and ankle issues for the last 3-4 years so this was a big deal for me.
Nice race! And congrats on doing it without pain. My hip issue is arthritis and sometimes bursitis. The bursitis in my case always flares up when I attempt to run at a pace that I'm not used to. I run a local 5k every year, and the bursitis flares up during the last few training runs and the race when I run at a faster pace. So maybe you can avoid hip pain if you run at comfortable pace.

It was just a tune up for a race I was considering over the Fourth of July. I decided to wait and shoot for the Turkey Trot over Thanksgiving. I'm just not ready. I want to be able to run without stopping and also drop another 10-15 pounds (Thanks, Wegovy). That being said, I'm thrilled that I can actually consider training without pain. Not long ago I could barely walk 100 yards without pain. Went to a couple of specialists that said my hips were physically fine, just tight. Then physical therapy, Stretchlab, lots of stretching at home and finally I feel good.

I find it extremely difficult to slow down.

Finally installed the new belt on my JD tractor...now I can cut the high grass.
I dismounted this deck five times since April, I should start a belt replacement business for John Deer lawn tractors as I am now a pro. My DW says NO!

I find it extremely difficult to slow down.
99% of runners are this way. One's times lower when they can pace themselves evenly through the race. Then a sustained kick at the end.

I strive to run at a steady pace, but gradually increasing speed with each mile, with my final mile the fastest. Works for me.

It's also enjoyable to be passing people in the final mile, as opposed to getting passed.

Well, my day started at midnight because the movers were still here. .Used a mover the realtor recommended to move to my new retirement community and it really was two guys and a U-Haul truck. They were supposed to pack Saturday, move yesterday, decided to do it all yesterday, were supposed to arrive at 9 AM, then 10:30 AM, then stuck behind a FIFA team leaving town and didn't arrive till noon. They brought only 10 boxes (even though I'd sent them a video and pictures of the contents of closets) and ran out of packing tape so I went out and got them more. I got to my new place at 9:15 PM, they arrived at 11 and left at 2:30 AM. Yeah. I just told them to throw stuff in the living/dining area other than moving the heavy items into the rooms where they needed to go. They stashed all the things they couldn't get into the boxes wherever they fit- into my collection of cloth bags, into the lawn and leaf bags I had out... what a mess. Fortunately I'd followed the advice in articles on moving and had brought boxes with me containing basic bath and coffee-making items and had all the contents from the refrigerator and freezer. Oh, yeah- and the good scotch.

So- I'm operating on 2 1/2 hours of sleep after a hectic week. Still haven't opened the boxes. And, despite all my pitching, donating, etc. I still have too much furniture and will call Habitat for Humanity. The good news: I think I'll like this place once I'm settled in and unpack but that may take awhile. I'm giving myself grace and not rushing. It's not like the camera crew from House Beautiful is going to show up.

Now if the closing on my house happens Wednesday I'll be relieved. I've been wrestling with a nasty issue over the title to the old house that I'll go into later if (please God, WHEN) the closing happens. It was raised by the title company only last Wednesday and it's been a major source of stress and lost sleep. I THINK everyone is on the same page now.

Since I'm mostly all settled in at my CCRC, I put the old place on the market today. If it sells as expected, it will cover most of the entrance fee I paid here, and I'll be back pretty close to where I was.

I'm fortunate that I have a friend who is an excellent real estate agent, and since he lives across the street he's certainly interested in keeping prices up.

Got back from a few days of traveling some border states. So, this morning I headed to the ranch and finished framing the the rafter bracing for tin to go up next for the lean-too on old shop.
I came home and got a patch of sourdough ready for baking at 5AM tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow we will go out to DIL Family ranch and have Birthday Party for my Son. Our oldest GD will come home with us and spend the night and return to the ranch sometime on Wednesday.

Cut my lawn in 100F heat index. Sitting on zero turn so not too bad for the 2.5 acres. Trimming and blowing was more work.

Been working on replacing the porch floorboards, which of course turned into half the pressure treated framing, new railings etc. Taking my time and being pretty OCD about it. Since I'm going to use PVC deck boards (less slippery, mold prone etc.) I am changing all old joist spacing from 16-inch OC to 12-inch OC.
This is turning into a lot of work as the old joist hangers have a boatload of nails in them (approx. 28 per hanger) and getting them out has been a real challenge. Have gotten little over half of them out. This morning I cut 5 new stair stringers for the new PVC boards. It's getting hot out there. Had to remove a few courses of cedar shake siding, rotting out from rain splashing, add new flashing along house walls etc. Am probably going to screen in most of the porch before I'm done as well. This is turning into an all-summer project.

Cleaned out the garage to make room for the new GX 550. Had to remove one of the overhead storage units and de-clutter.

Been busy on our local "buy nothing" today and the last few days. Gave away:
  • Tool bag
  • Electric corded drill
  • Electric corded edge trimmer
  • Dent remover tool
  • Jumper cables
  • Head racquetball racquet
  • Battery charger
  • Gopher bait applicator
  • Electric auto pump
People have been pretty good at actually picking up. That makes it a lot easier.

For those who would like to see/know the PM2.5 inside their house while the air is being purified, Blue Air purifiers give a reading right on the device. You can also view it in the app.
