I’m enjoying the Lost City of the Monkey God, by Douglas Preston. It’s a nonfiction account of how lost civilizations in Honduras were discovered using lidar.

I bumped into one of those lists about things you are supposed to read to better a better man. Fair enough: I am reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson.

The End of Everything (Astrophysically Speaking) by Katie Mack

Sort of an interesting read in an abstract way. She covers half a dozen or so ways the universe may (or may not) end billions and billions of years from now. So nothing to put on your calendar. But if you're the type who lies awake at night thinking of things to worry about this may be fresh material for you.

Not On Any Map by Margie Smith Holt.

I really enjoyed it. If you’ve ever stayed on and explored St John in the USVI, you might too.

There are 3 distinct sections in the book. The story of the author leaving everything behind to move to St John in the USVI, sailing adventures, and tales of the back to back Category 5 hurricanes that hit the island.

I finished The Beekeeper of Aleppo yesterday. It's about a family fleeing the Syrian civil war in 2015. It was very moving and terrifying, and it made me realize I should try to do something to help refugees that end up in my city.

Today I'll start with In Dubious Battle by probably my favorite author, John Steinbeck.

A few weeks back, while at a classic car show, there was a book sale going on at the local library in that town. We stopped in and I picked up six hardcover books for $6.

Four of them were by Michael Connelly and two of them were by John Grisham.

I just finished The Chamber by Grisham, and I'm about to start Dragons by Connelly.

I found one of my all-time favorite books at a tiny used book store. I'd never heard of it, and I'd never heard of the author. You never know when you pick up a used book for $2.
