Among the plethora of arrowheads, spear points, hand axes, trilobites, etc. that DW picked up as a kid after her dad plowed the field, there are some less common items.

I've often wondered what this one is. Any ideas?

It's 7 inches long by 4 inches wide and 2 inches thick.
DW thinks it may have been kind of a pestle for grinding corn, but it seems large for that to me. Top and side views here. The bottom is relatively flat although that big groove continues all around.

My bet is it's more of a pick/mattock/hoe. Likely used for busting sod for sowing corn, gourds, and beans.
