What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

How many examples of bad driving can one driver make within one mile? I saw the following record attempt recently. 1) Pull out onto a main road without stopping. 2) Pull out when an approaching car is so near it has to brake. 3) Drive way below the 45 mph speed limit. 4) Drive way above the 25 mph limit that begins upon reaching a town. 5) Stop at a red light with all tires beyond the intersection stripe. 6) Do the same at the next light but also block the right turn lane where right on red is permitted. 7) After the light goes green, turn right. 8) Do not use turn signals.
That's pretty impressive. How long have you lived in my area? (And no I don't mean it was me! I just see things like that all the time...)

Not sure I follow you, but here, if you're turning right at a red light, you're supposed to treat it like a stop sign....so you stop and if there's nothing coming the other way, yes, you are required to turn right and proceed.

In the state of TN it is not mandatory to turn right on red. It is allowed but not mandatory.

No, not required... it is an option...

Now, if you can produce the law saying it is required I will concede...otherwise not..

From the web, and it says 'allowed'... Yes, in Texas, you are legally allowed to turn right at a red light after coming to a complete stop, as long as there's no sign prohibiting such a maneuver

"Here" is not Texas for me FYI...anyway...

I think we might have touched on this earlier but today I was reminded about how many cashiers at grocery stores don't have a clue that when it gets busy and lines start to build up, they need to pick up the pace. I tried to check out during such a rush and noticed them just casually and rather slowly cruising along, oblivious to the rush. (This was a unique place in that it didn't have self-serve registers.)

The failure to turn right on red when it is clear always annoys me. No, it is not a legal requirement, but it is more efficient for traffic flow. Even though I am retired and don't have to be anywhere in a particular hurry, I still hate inefficiency.

I do as well, but what I hate even more is rude behavior. Hello driver, you don't own the road and there are other people in the world who prefer not to be behind you while sit there at a stop light not turning red for no particular reason........GO

Yea, but I asked what it is in your state...

You said it was a requirement... I doubt that and showed the Texas rule... where is your state's rule?

Which is why I’m often peeved by the line of cars turning left on the green arrow but each leaving about ten car lengths between vehicles.

Okay, so I exaggerate. But tighten it up people. We don’t all like to sit and stare at a red light.

My pet peeve of the day:

People on airplanes after landing that wait until the row in front of them is walking off the plane to jump up with a phone attached to their shoulder, a half-finished iced coffee in one hand, and then begin fishing around to find and organize some combination of tote bag, computer bag, neck pillow, jacket/blanket, and roll aboard while standing in the aisle talking on the phone.

My pet peeve today is that I remember when home state changed the laws to allow right on red. That makes me old.

Actually it is my annual peeve.
Every year in October. Starting Fiday morning to last until sundown Sunday, the nerby town puts on all streets occupied by vendors' tents selling stuff and variety of foods for three days. And a parade of various organizations t boot. As result thousands of people show up to buy stuff. The town blocks off all roads save for some bypasses. Most townfolks leave for the duration.
I call it the annual people zoo.
Mercifully the path to my camp is unaffected, thus I can escape.

Fron long ago when passangered in airplanes my peave was people clapping upon landing. What do they do when a wheels up or crash landing happens, Boo?
Last I remember commercial rated pilots are not in the performance arts.

I am peeved at IKEA’s floor layout and merch organization. They try to trap you into walking the whole store. IKEA is like a giant escape room where you know the item is in stock but where is it? Of course there are a hundred items that look almost exactly like what you are searching for. If there is a matching piece that goes with the item, is it next to or near the item? No it is not! Once you find all your items, then you have to wind through a maze and find the secret door into the warehouse section, and then the checkout. I seriously doubt their vaunted meatballs would quell my annoyance.

Best description of an IKEA store ever. 😅 Went once - it was exhausting. Never worked so hard to find my way OUT of a store. I can't think of one thing I need badly enough to ever visit again.

As we should!
Well, no. I do remember some grouchy old biddy madly honking at me as I sat, stopped, in the right lane for the light to turn green. Y'see, the thing was, I had no intention of turning right. I was going straight through. There was no requirement to turn right.

Student driver?

I went to Georgia Dept of Driver Services this morning to renew my license. Their computer system was down. I waited a little over 2 hours and it never came back up, so I went to lunch. BTW, two weeks ago I went to my county tax office to get my tag renewal. You guessed it, their system was down. There must be developing countries that do a better job of this stuff than the state of GA!
It must have been that hurricane. Right?

There’s a cure for this problem. It’s called a traffic circle.

Falling in line with the driving issues:
I am sitting at a red light. Going straight ahead. The light turns green. As I slowly start through the light, I see a car approaching their red light to my right that has no intention of stopping. Fortunately, they were not going fast. Well, they paid attention pretty quick when I slammed on the brakes and leaned on the horn long and hard, and gave them the stare from H3LL.

I don't know if they thought they could sneak though before me, or just were not paying attention.

Oh, and on the way home I almost hit another car as they blew though a stop sign.

Rant over.

Not really a peeve, just a comment of what were they thinking....

Was taking my purchases to the car... stop at the trunk to put the stuff in and a car stops a few cars down waiting for me... I look at them and look just past me... so 3 slots down is open.. heck, 2 slots down on the other side is open....

I did not rush, but also did not go slower than I normally would... put the stuff in the trunk, walked the basket to the slot, got in the car...started, put on seat belt and then backed out and drove away...

It they had parked 3 slots down they would have already been in the store!!!

Automatic sinks that take way too long to find just the right spot to put your hands to make the water come on. And then half the time it’s a position that is either way too close to the faucet to comfortably wash your hands or requires your hands to be up above the level of the sink so the water splashes everywhere.

We are seeing more and more drivers pay no attention to red lights around here. I get running a yellow that maybe just turned red as you hit the intersection, but what about the 2 or 3 cars behind them that didn’t bother to stop either? Or all the ones I’ve seen stop at a red light and once checking that the path was clear proceeding to drive through rather than waiting for it to turn green. It’s not a stop sign buddy.
