What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Automatic sinks that take way too long to find just the right spot to put your hands to make the water come on. And then half the time it’s a position that is either way too close to the faucet to comfortably wash your hands or requires your hands to be up above the level of the sink so the water splashes everywhere.

Separate Hot & Cold Faucets are the worst.

I agree about the sinks. I like to wet my hands before I apply soap so the auto faucet just wastes water.

We are seeing more and more drivers pay no attention to red lights around here. I get running a yellow that maybe just turned red as you hit the intersection, but what about the 2 or 3 cars behind them that didn’t bother to stop either? Or all the ones I’ve seen stop at a red light and once checking that the path was clear proceeding to drive through rather than waiting for it to turn green. It’s not a stop sign buddy.
You don't know about the new "straight ahead on red" rule?

It's not totally new. In the small town where I went to college in the 1980s, there was one traffic light where the majority of drivers went straight ahead on red lights.

Speaking of traffic circles, I think most of us could consider people who don't know how to drive through one a pet peeve. I've seen way too many people treat it like a stop sign, stopping even if there's no other cars visible! But I also have a grudge against poorly designed roads, and this traffic circle in particular. Look at the cars to the south of the circle for scale. There's barely one or two car lengths between where you enter and the next entrance! This circle gets very busy, and even slightly and not unreasonably hesitant or cautious drivers may be sitting for quite a while trying to enter it. This intersection (west of Baltimore) would probably have been better served by a four-way stop.

Just had this happen last night. Stopped at a light, ready to make a left turn. Traffic across from us was also stopped. Left hand arrow turns green. As we start our turn, a STOPPED vehicle decides they can go straight through the light, on red, before we can make the turn.

Duvets in hotel rooms.

This comes to mind because I just returned from a road trip. The A/Cs in hotel rooms cannot get the room cold enough to need a duvet. A few years ago I started traveling with my own blanket, so I don't have to wake up in a sweaty mess under a duvet.

Hotel A/Cs.

It seems like more and more hotels have A/Cs that suck. On really hot days, it seems like it is about 3:00 AM before the A/C catches up. There is no way they work well enough to need a duvet.

LOL>... yea.... AND that might be the ONLY cover that they have... or that and a thin sheet...

I am peeved at IKEA’s floor layout and merch organization. They try to trap you into walking the whole store. IKEA is like a giant escape room where you know the item is in stock but where is it? Of course there are a hundred items that look almost exactly like what you are searching for. If there is a matching piece that goes with the item, is it next to or near the item? No it is not! Once you find all your items, then you have to wind through a maze and find the secret door into the warehouse section, and then the checkout. I seriously doubt their vaunted meatballs would quell my annoyance.
IKEA's store layout is very deliberate and works well for them.
How Ikea's shop layout influences what you buy

I read an article last year about how they tried an alternate "easy to navigate" system in a few stores as a test, and their feedback from customers was largely negative, so they abandoned the idea.

I'm sure it is very effective at getting their customers to buy more than they had planned.

I find their layouts so annoying that I won't go into their stores, now that I know what to expect.

Hopefully for them, their effectiveness outweighs the customers they push away.

I figure there's no way hotels wash those big bed spreads between guests. When I check in the first thing I do is remove that thing.

Web sites that have instructions that are inaccurate. Instructions say, in order to do X, go to page 4 and click on Y. You go to page 4 and there is no Y to click on. You spend 10 minutes looking around the website, for some other way to do X, to no avail. You call customer service, and yes, they actually do know where to go in the website, to do X (your original goal) but it is buried in some other subject unrelated to X. Customer service does not apologize, and is unconcerned when you point out that they ought to correct their instructions.

I hear you, but the poor blighter on the phone probably has no way to influence those responsible for the website and has heard it hundreds of times before. A big reason I worked hard to FIRE was the frustration with management not hearing (or caring) from the front lines.

exactly. I spend a lot on their type of mdse. I went once and was so fed up, never returned.

Interesting. I have the opposite view on hotel ACs. I find them set too cold for me. Maybe because I am comfortable at 72-75 degrees. I find many rooms when I check in set to 65-68 degrees, which I find very chilly.

In the hotels I stay in, they have a duvet that is sandwiched between two sheet. Then there's another sheet below. It's been years since I've stayed somewhere with a big bed spread, and they're definitely a huge pet peeve of mine. So gross.

It is in full force. This photo sequence documents what happened yesterday. Guy was in the right-turn-only lane next to me and went straight ahead on red. Nice. My jaw hit the floor. Oh, and he was traveling in the opposite direction of the hospital, just 2 miles behind us. It wasn't a medical emergency. I wouldn't be surprised if the ladder fell out of his truck later.

That's how we'll know when total societal collapse is imminent - everyone will just blatantly ignore the traffic signals.

I’m so tired of hearing about the latest “supermoon.” It only happens two to three times a year, and the difference in appearance isn’t really noticeable by the naked eye anyway. Bah!
After the supermoon comes the Polar Vortex. Just wait.

It's already been happening. for quite a few years. People have been giving up their rights for supposed safety.
I spent quite a bit of time in North Philly in the 90s. Traffic lights and stop signs didn't matter. To avoid being the victim of a crime, the vehicle never stopped moving.

OK... so United Airlines offered CCs to DW and me... I get 80K miles and she get 65K... but I have to pay the $95 the first year, she gets a pass...

The peeve is that she got a $20K credit line and I got just over $16K...

WTH... I have all the money!!! :hide:

My credit rating is better than hers... but I also have a lot more CCs in my name...

The CC companies know that she can spend at a faster rate than you, so that's why she was given more credit! All you have to do is cover her,. LOL! :2funny:

Boarding zone cheaters on airplanes. I always book the econo seats at the back of the plane. I try to get into the boarding line as soon as my 'zone 8' is called. (They board the plane from front to back)

Lately I see zone 8 is already half full when I get here, meaning they jumped ahead of the zone 8 call.

I would be happy to be the last person boarding, but if you don't get there first, you may not have room in the overhead compartments for your carry on bag, and have to uncomfortably stow it under your feet.

I just heard on the news that American Airlines is talking about installing technology to somehow alert agents to zone jumpers. (But why can't the agent just enforce the rules? The zone is right on the boarding pass. Too confrontational, I guess. lol)
