What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

I turned off my phone. As soon as I turned it on, they started up again.I've counted 25 calls today from the same stupid scam. They don't even know how to do a scam right. 27 calls. All were local except one from Jamaica. The last one was a live person, who then transferred me to a nonworking number. Why call to scam someone if you transfer the call to a nonworking number? I've been blocking numbers all day.
Blocking does nothing... they spoof the numbers so not used twice...

My number was spoofed once... I got a LOT of call back from people who did not answer... like 10 to 15 a minute!! Had to look a the log online to see them all...

I don’t get bothered with bogus calls. I use the ‘silent unknown callers’ option to send them to voicemail so my phone never rings. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message and I’ll call back.

I get further peeved when the person blocking the grocery aisle gives me a dirty look when I dare to politely say “excuse me.” The other day one responded by moving their cart about six inches and huffed when I had to repeat my “pardon me.”

Inconsiderate/oblivious "drivers" at the supermarket, with their carts that is.

I went shopping this morning. As I went down one aisle, there was a shopper stopped on the left side - fine. There was another shopper stopped on the right side directly opposite her - okay, though if I was the second to arrive there I would have stopped before or after the first one, but I'll let that slide. Someone ahead of me going down the aisle got her cart between the other two and decided that was where she would stop while she walked over to the shelf to get what she wanted. How clueless can you be? The aisle was now completely barricaded by 3 carts until one of them did their thing and moved on.

I am always conscious of my surroundings and never stop without making sure I'm in the clear and not obstructing traffic. I also don't suddenly start backing up or swing my cart around to reverse direction without looking, but so many people do just that. I always joke with my wife that it's okay because they are the only person in the world. I'll never understand the complete lack of concern for anybody but themselves.
How about the fun to be had in busy retail parking lots? lol

We have the person who walks out to their car and is ready to leave. They see another car waiting, (with no other spots available), and a long line of cars behind that person. Yet the person leaving somehow feels the need to kill some time once they enter their vehicle. They fuss with hair, makeup, rearrange packages, dig in purses, talk or text on the phone, etc., before finally backing up and leaving.

We also have the person who MUST snag the closest spot, despite open ones a bit further out. They stop in the middle of the row, so no other cars can pass and they wait...and wait...and wait for person #1 above to finally finish whatever they're doing and leave. Doesn't matter how long it takes or how many cars are stuck behind them. They WILL get camp out until they get that spot!

The use of "vacay" for "vacation". I don't know why. Marriott is the worst with their e-mails- "Athena53, where will your next vacay take you?"

Insurance. Almost everything about insurance.

In this particular peeve, I am in open season for choosing my dental insurance for 2025. I go to the BENEFEDS website to review the costs for each plan offered. Some of the coverage options (mostly for out of network providers) say something like my responsibility would be for 50% coinsurance up to the plan limit, plus everything over the plan limit.

So I naturally wonder: what are the plan limits? BENEFEDS can't tell me. They say I have to ask the various insurance companies. OK, a pain, but I can do that.

So I call the insurance companies. They can't tell me, either. They say that can't tell me until I sign up for their insurance and then submit a claim. Then they can tell me the plan limit.

How can we compare costs and benefits if they won't tell us what the costs and benefits actually are?

For the first time in my life I have reached out to my Congresscritter in the hope that she will help get this fixed.

The only way to have a good experience with insurance companies in many cases is to own one.

Actually, I got two or three calls from each spoofed number yesterday. And not a single robocall today. Zero. Zip. It makes me wonder if I got kicked off the Do Not Call list for no reason which started the calls. I resubmitted my cell number to the Do Not Call list during the late afternoon yesterday.

Package Delivery - Amazon driver couldn't have tossed it into the corner a couple feet further where there was no snow? Common sense is clearly lacking.

Edit to add photo of subsequent delivery today from a driver with common sense. Yay!

Depends. If you registered your number before 2008, there was a five year expiration. From 2008 onward, the registration has been permanent.

Yea... we have a couple of nooks at our front door... the good delivery guys put them in those nooks so you cannot see it from the street... others just in front of the door..

We have never had one put it that far away from the door though...

Wow!

You need to make friends with the drivers. I came home to two packages nicely set on the chair by the front door with a biscuit for my dog. The UPS driver loves my dog, and I always wave to the driver when he drives by. He treats us really well.

I went to bed and was reading for a few minutes when I got a text notification. My devices go into Sleep Mode and block text notifications before bedtime but our kids and my sister can ask to get through if it's important. So I got up to check who texted.

It was our credit card with a fraud alert. "Did you authorize this purchase? Text Y or N." It was a boutique bakery in NYC. Not mine and I respond with N.

"Thanks, your card is now locked. Please call this number for more info"

I called and after a 15 minute wait I hung up and went back to bed. In the morning I called again. There were 2 more transactions that were blocked. The replacement card will arrive in 7 to 10 business days.

This is becoming so common that I don't even get frazzled anymore! This is our everyday card that has 2% cash rewards on everything. But we have another card with 1% rewards and we also have a debit card and cash.

Just another peeve of the digital age!

Two factor authentication

I know what it is and why it's to my benefit but it's a pain in the butt. I already have to enter my user ID and my password and then do the Captcha to prove I'm not a robot. To then also have to wait for a text or email and enter an additional code to access the site is just really annoying.

I like two factor authentication and I never turn it off. We've been hacked. It really sucks.

Service providers that send copious reminders about an appointment and text to get you to confirm an appointment, sometimes twice! It gets really annoying. I would not have made the appointment if I didn't intend to keep it. One reminder a day or two before is fine, but the multiple reminders are a pain.

I like the fingerprint authentication if it's offered as an alternative. I have the reader on my cell phone and my laptop. So easy to just place my finger over. Also, for my phone, it offers facial recognition, which is good too, but most websites don't offer that for identification where many, I'd say most, now do for fingerprint.

Assuming my timeline is correct, this is the 687th consecutive last possible day that I can buy a container of gummies that, taking *only one a day* will cause me to lose [random number generator, large] pounds in [random number generator, small] days!!!

I love Face ID. My mom banks with Citizens and I handle her affairs and it’s very annoying that they don’t offer it. They are the only financial firm I deal with that doesn’t have it. I remind them of that every time they send me a survey.

My heavily calloused fingers are a no go for fingerprint ID. Samsung or Verizon tried it for my cell phone lock but gave up trying to get an image.

My pet peeve of the year: tailgaters. Not the Penn State football types.

They're getting worse and more aggressive, even when there is almost no traffic. It's pretty scary at night in October-December, when the deer are very active as well. I resent them risking my life in addition to theirs.

Especially when I am in the far right lane, it's supposed to be the slower one. Go around me!
And their headlights are blinding.
We were out for a drive last night, two lane country road, Deer ran right in front. Luckily, DH was able to slow and swerve and the car behind responded fast enough to avoid collision with us. Idiot was lucky, as he had been thisclose. Hopefully, made his heart beat a bit faster and he learned a bit to back off after.

In my reckless youth, I'd toss marbles out the sunroof to get cars tailgating to back off. Now days, I don't though....
This was a variation of my uncle who had a pump oil can he'd release a few squirts that would catch the windshield of a tailgating car. All this back in the days when we lived in the Ozarks and 'good-old-boys' country.
