What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

WTH is going on with men's work pants:confused: As in manual labor work pants.
I can go through a pair pretty quick and haven't bought any for years now. Last time buying was during covid just to make sure I had some to wear. Same with socks n briefs.
Most of the damn work pants have gone to skinny boy, stretchy crap. WTH is the world coming to:confused:
With the weight of the crap I carry, stretchy pants would be down around my ankles without cutting off circulation by my belt.
We drove all over today trying to to find something suitable. Finally bought a pair of work bibs!!
NON STRETCHY OF COURSE!!!

At our cabin Colorado has also outlawed plastic bags. At our Louisiana condo plastic bags are still legal. So we smuggle bags into Colorado. They make great trash can liners. And cheaper than having to buy trash can liners!
Whenever I go out of state, I save the grocery store bags and take them home mainly for use as trash can liners. But, they have a lot of other uses also.

Maybe Carhartt?

May have no choice but I've bought the cargo work pants for many years now as I prefer carrying my wallet in the side pocket. Daren it anyway! I don't like change!!

Maybe Carhartt?
I gave up on Carhartt close to 10 years ago. Not sure what happened. The work pants still felt sturdy, but they would wear out super fast. Even within 2-3 months the fabric on the thighs would start to wear out in the shape of of my phone and keys, holes in the pockets, shredding around the knees and cuffs, etc.

The pants I upgraded to are stretchy, but they're much more durable. I've taken some tumbles on scree while wearing them for mountaineering, and while my legs were cut up pretty badly at times, the pants showed no wear. They've been my yard work and construction pants for years now and still look fine.

I was going mostly on “reputation”. My normal habitat was a class 1 cleanroom. Wasn’t much need for rugged durability. My whatever pants are jeans, but I don’t actually do much w*rk.

I've been buying khaki pants from Tractor Supply for a few years. Holding up well, can usually find them on sale for less than $15.00/pair. Just looked and their Blue Mountain are on sale for $12.99

Funny you mention this. I'm wearing my brand new Duluth Breezeshooters right now. Since I do manual labor a few times a week, I've been a consumer of true work pants for the last 6 years or so. I like Duluth and Timberland, but Timberland has shrunk their offerings lately. Both offer good crotch reinforcement, which is crucial when you are bending and lifting and prying. Jeans will just rip.

Duluth has a ton of variety, from stretchy to solid, from high cotton to no cotton. Their Firehose original variety is my winter pick. I'm trying these Breezeshooters now to see how well they work in summer. Very lightweight, no cotton. They have a ton of offerings in standard and relaxed, much less in slim. I am not slim. I don't pound Red Bulls and Marlboros like the guys who need the slim fit. :)

Forgot all about Duluth. We use to buy things n get their flyers before moving several years. Will have to get back on their mailing list!

my peeve today....
Assume I am named Charlie Brown.
When I call customer service (and it has happened more than once at different companies) and the agent refers to me as "Mr. Charlie"! It's either Charlie, or Mr. Brown. I don't care which. But not Mr. Charlie.
I find that very rude. Anyone else, or should I crawl back under my rock?

Maybe the agent is a southerner. Mr. Charlie (or Miz Lucy) is a polite form of address in the south and considered respectful.

I have a long last name and it's not easy to pronounce (unless you are from Russia or the Baltic countries). In Texas, if you are something other than a " Smith" or "Jones" :ROFLMAO:, everyone stumbles on your last name. Mine, they just stare at it and generally don't try to pronounce it. So, I don't mind being called Mr. Tony or Mr. John, etc. It's all good.

I get this everywhere "Miss Aeri" - it's almost a surprise when someone doesn't do it.

Yes it's annoying, but so pervasive I can't bother to consider it rude. Just...here we go again...

I think this is true. I am a transplanted Northerner and thought it was strange at first. But now it’s like “Mr. Rhett” and just seems polite.

Besides the Southern US, as pointed out above, it seems to be common in at least a few non-US cultures. The middle east is one, I believe. Maybe India, too?

I have found very few people who can pronounce my given name properly, or understand it correctly when I say it. So when providing my name, such as to the hostess at a restaurant, I always use my surname.

I've been noticing that here of late. Actually, I noticed that in the South. An older "southern gentleman" can be called "Mr. Last Name" but NEVER by their first name unless you say "Mr. First Name." It's a sign of respect.

My guess is the people in whatever country is actually taking your call was educated in etiquette by a "southerner" but YMMV.

I like Duluth Trading Co.'s stuff, too. My pet peeve of the year is that their Ballroom Khaki casual pants (these are not heavy-duty work pants) had their side pocket redesigned. This is a pocket on the side of the thigh sized perfectly for a phone. It used to be the best cell phone pocket ever sewn into pants but they changed it to be entered on the back side with a zipper, whereas the old version was simply open at the top and it was trivial to just drop the phone in. I noticed the plethora of bad reviews on their web site for the ver 2.0 pants and that they are now on clearance with low inventory. Here's hoping for the old version to come back, but it's been a long wait.

Airline gate agents who as a group cannot speak slowly and clearly when telling waiting passengers what they are supposed to do when boarding the plane. They also need to be aware of the noise level and confusion at a busy airport.

Today the gate agent was repeatedly telling people to line up on the right side as she faced them. They did. But it was her left side as she faced the crowd. She got a bit upset as passengers flocked to the “wrong” side. The mess ended when one alert passenger shouted “Your right or our right?” Amazing.
