What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I finished Slow Horses and it was just OK. I’m going to avoid Shrinking for now but I see Bad Sisters S2 is starting up. I think it will be tough to match S1.
Edit: All on Apple TV.

Finished season 2 of Pachinko. I’ve enjoyed the series and hopefully there will be a season 3.

The story follows a rural Korean family during Japanese occupation in Korea, moving to Japan, with two timelines, one starting pre-WW2 and the other in 1989 Japan. It’s been interesting and I like how they interweave major historical events into the storyline.

Started Season 2 of "The Lioness" on Netflix.
International CIA spy stuff and lots of language.

Finished "Banished" about the first convicts sent to Australia, loved it. Not sure where or even if it is streaming.

Looks interesting - it's on Hulu and Britbox. We visited Australia and Ireland this year. At Port Arthur we learned about the harsh conditions endured by the criminals and petty thieves and the difficulty in administering the prison. In Belfast we read a letter written by a young teenage girl while on her way to Australia. Conditions in Ireland at the time were so dire that her parents had willingly sent her into servitude in hopes of a better life. She wrote that on her journey she had three meals a day and her own bunk with a blanket and seemed pretty pleased with that situation. Hard to imagine.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Matlock and Lioness. Waiting for next season of Brokenwood on Acorn to drop. Also, waiting for next season of Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. Enjoy them all. We rarely eat out so having several streaming services doesn’t give me heartburn.

"Disclaimer" on Apple TV. A psychological thriller. An award winning investigative journalist gets a taste of her own medicine when a scandalous family secret she has been hiding for decades is slowly leaked to family members. Good suspense and characterization. Above average cinematography. Acting is very good. There is brief glimpses of some R-rated photographs and some sexual content. Have seen the first two episodes and will be continuing. Stars Kate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.

Whoa! Episode 3 has some extended scenes of graphic, explicit sex. This was gratuitous, IMO. I understand why the director had the sexual scenes (it's important to the plot) but they went on and on and on and left nothing to the imagination. Then there were flashback scenes to them in episode 4. Too much.

The story is still intriguing, so I'll continue to watch hoping there are no more NC-17 rated scenes.

Finished "Disclaimer." It has a wicked, unexpected plot twist in the final episode. My wife liked it. I found it to be "The Impossible Character" trope wherein a character does something inconsistent with how the writer has portrayed him up until then. The writer even doubles down on the inconsistency.

I give the show a 6.5 out of 10, which is a shame because it was an 8.5 out of a 10 until the last episode.

I watched S1 of “The Irrational” on Peacock. I’m not likely to watch S2. For a crime show it’s a little too simplistic and unrealistic.

Alec Mercer is a world-renowned behavioral scientist who lends his expertise to an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations with his unique and unexpected approach to understanding human behavior.

I just finished the series and it was very good, though disturbing. All episodes are now available so you don’t have to wait thru weekly drops of episodes as Apple TV + does. Acting is excellent. Kevin Kline is almost unrecognizable.

I've seen 5 or 6 of these episodes. Totally agree with your assessment. The main character makes some gigantic intuitive leaps of logic and/or shaky psychological generalities to catch the bad guys.

For those into sports documentaries (and hockey)which follow current players and teams, check out “Faceoff: Inside the NHL” on Prime TV. Each episode focuses on a different subject of the rigors of the NHL hockey season with unfettered access to players, coaches and the games (mainly during last seasons Stanley Cup playoffs). It follows players through their personal/ family lives, taking subways to the games in their home cities, their contract concerns, injury issues and ups and downs of a professional athlete. Many of these guys are not as well known or recognizable as other sports’ star athletes but they are some of the biggest stars in one of the toughest sports in North America. I’m really enjoying every episode and am learning a lot about the how these players travel, practice, live and thrive through a long season and playoff push. It really is a well done series.

Finished Season 2 of The Diplomat on Netflix. Season 3 already filming.
We're watching season 2 currently (up to episode 4) and enjoying it, though we really should have gone back and watched the last episode or two of season 1 as we didn't totally remember who everyone was.

We are also really enjoying Discovery of Witches on Netflix. We just finished season 2 (of 3) today.

I'm eagerly awaiting season 2 of Wednesday which drops soon. Season 1 was such a fun ride. It is the only show in a very long time that I rewatched in its entirety.

After a year or two between seasons, I do usually go back and watch at least the last of the previous season. Memory just isn't what it used to be :)

Anyone watch Yellowstone last night? Worth paying for the season?

Another vote for the Diplomat. I’m about halfway through season one and enjoying it.

I may go back and rewatch Discovery of Witches. I saw it but didn’t watch the episodes in order and may have missed a couple. I enjoyed the books that the series is based on. Since I knew the plot in advance I watched the episodes when they were available to me for free rather than watching in order.

Is anyone watching The Penguin on Max? Wow! I’m only 2 episodes in, but this is one of the best series I’ve seen this year. Colin Farrell is unrecognizable as the Penguin. The make up job to disfigure his face is amazing. Every character is sinister and dark. This Batman back story about how one of the most “popular” villains of Gotham came to power will get you hooked from the first episode.
