What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Congrats - you're the first one to notice and I've had it for a little while. :)
First one to comment, maybe. I did get a chuckle a while back when I zoomed in on it.

When I tried to watch Brokenwood on Prime, it required to subscribe to Acorn. Nope...don't need another subscription.

Dark Winds and Poker Face have new seasons this year. Both are entertaining (to me). They're both a bit throwback in their style which is effective for the kind of shows they are.

We can’t really watch Brokenwood, because my husband instantly falls asleep and then I have to explain it all to him.

I like Poker Face and was excited to start season 2. However, I found the first episode to be disappointing, almost comically bad, and not at all like season one's episodes. Thankfully, episode 2 was a lot better and more like the usual plot lines.

For anyone enjoying Natasha Lyonne in poker face, I highly recommend her dark comedy Russian Doll, on Netlix. 2 seasons. If you don't get hooked after 3 episodes, you can bail, but not after just one!

Oftentimes on Prime you can get a free 30 day trial for other streaming service - we've binge-watched many shows that way and not renewed.

Another option specifically for Acorn would be to check out your local public library's electronic access - through this, many libraries have access to Acorn. Ours did until about a year or so ago. Only thing is that you have to renew access every 7 days. But free is free (and it's through your own streaming device).

Cheers.

There are 10 books in the series it's based on, so that should provide lots of material to continue on. I didn't think I would like it, but heard the buzz and started watching. Found myself flying through it. The characters really make the series. And they have been casted wonderfully.

Agreed. I binged it in one day (home sick). Well cast. Well acted. Well shot. The actual "mystery plot" was convoluted nonsense but it didn't detract from the show much. I find that the "plots" of a lot of modern mysteries are just implausible nonsense anyway so it didn't distract from Dept. Q for me. Hope they do another series.

Check if your public library has Hoopla. Brokenwood and many other British (I know, BW is from New Zealand) shows, normally only available from Acorn or Britbox, are free with your library card.

I'm a couple of episodes into Supacell on Netflix. Not quite sure yet what I think. I definitely recommend captions as not only is it British but it takes place among Black gangs in England so there's both the British accent and the street lingo to contend with.

We are also watching the latest season of Ginny and Georgia which is a great show and this season is riveting. We've seen 6 of 10 episodes and I can't wait for the next one.

Just finished F1 Academy. "A docuseries produced by Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine, offers a compelling look at the 2024 F1 Academy season, highlighting the female drivers' dedication and competitive journey. The series is praised for its engaging storytelling, showcasing the personal triumphs and challenges of the young drivers."

We really enjoyed season one of Ginny and Georgia. Season two is a bit of a slog. It's still worth a watch.

We just watched Mobland on Paramount plus. We weren’t sure after the first episode if we would keep on. But Helen Mirren, Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan were the deciding factors in our continuing with it. By midway, we loved it. It’s violent, but otherwise very good.

I just finished "Cassandra" on Netflix - German language, 6 episode limited series. A family moves into a 1970's 'smart home' run by Cassandra, a very retro robot AI which has ideas of it's own. Not really sci-fi, it's a very human story. I enjoyed it.

"Stick" on Apple TV. Stars Owen Wilson as a retired, disgraced golf pro who discovers a teenage golfing phenom. I've seen the first two episodes and it's very good. It appears to be a redemption story with some humor thrown in.

Owen Wilson has a great part and the script exploits his talents for glib delivery of dialogue. The kid is also a pretty good actor.

You don't have to know much about golf to enjoy this but it will enhance the experience. Episodes are between 30 and 45 minutes long. As always, no commercials on Apple TV and best in the world picture and sound quality.

I'm giving it an 8.0 out of 10. And if you know my other reviews this high of a review is rare territory for me.

Watches Season 2 of The Last of us. Not as good as the first. Got a little bored with it but watched the complete series because that is our thing if we get past the first 2 episodes of a series.

Just started watching last night. British crime thriller set in Edinburgh. "A brash but brilliant cop becomes head of a new police department, where he leads an unlikely team of misfits in solving Edinburgh's cold cases." 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Thanks for this one (Dept Q). Started watching it. Enjoyable so far.

We watched two episodes last night but not our cup of tea. For cop shows, I like one case per episode not one case per season. Then they fill-in with tragic back stories while you really wish they'd move the story line ahead on the case. And for me, if the motive of the perp ends up "they're a psycho" I'm not interested. There's no character that's likeable... everyone's life is in shambles and they're all struggling. Too dark.

Just a PSA, Brokenwood is a bait and switch on Prime; the first season is free, but after that, you gotta pay.

We finished season 3 yesterday and really enjoyed it. Season 3 was darker and deeper, dealt with a lot more personal stuff and mental health issues and teen angst and more. All handled very well IMO. Some of the most realistic portrayal of social anxiety I’ve ever seen.

We are watching the final, final season 8 of S.W.A.T. We enjoyed this show considering that we prefer British / Irish & Scottish Police procedurals. We like the characters, although in this season there is a little too much drama for our liking. Still watchable for us.
