What OLD series/movies are you watching? *Spoilers welcome!*

Sadly there was very little of Jessica Alba.

I can fix that...

"Extras" starring Ricky Gervais. A 2005 comedy, may be seen on BritBox and Peacock. Only 13 episodes.

Gervais' character, Andy Millman, is a struggling actor trying to make it big. Actually, he's not really an actor no matter how much he tries to fool himself (and everyone else.) Rather, he is an extra, a spear carrier, a background figure that doesn't have any lines.

Each week there is a guest star that Gervais tries to ingratiate himself with in order to get a line, just one line of dialogue. These efforts go up in flames with plenty of laughs. The first episode had Ben Stiller. Kate Winslet, Samuel L. Jackson, and Patrick Stewart are also celebrities that show up with their own episode.

Andy hangs out with Maggie Jacobs (Ashley Jensen) a not very bright actress extra in the same situation as Andy. Her aspirations are to hook up with the star of the show. These are spectacular (and hilarious) failures.

Andy has a talent agent (played by Stephen Merchant) that doesn't lift a finger to help him.

An interesting look behind the scenes of TV production with many laugh out loud moments. 8.3 out of 10 on IMDB.com.

Dark winds has be re released on Netflix . About a Navajo tribal policeman. A good series that good reviews. if you haven’t seen it. They have decided to make a new season for next year

Indeed, it is Daniel J. Travanti.

This group is too good at this game.

He played a shock-jock radio talk show host in a 1965 episode of Perry Mason.
I may have mentioned before, but Twilight Zone and Tales of Wells Fargo are the kings of guest stars before they were stars. I even saw Jack Nicholson in an episode of the latter.

I was watching "Petticoat Junction" this morning. It was one of the later episodes, after Bea Benaderet had died, and they had That Lady M.D., Who's as Pretty as Can Be."

Anyway, Uncle Joe announced his retirement. Everybody just fell out laughing whenever he announced it, and even the Hooterville dog keeled over, at the news.

I don't know why, but for some reason I found the idea of Uncle Joe, who spent his whole life trying to dodge work and responsibility, announcing his retirement, a bit extra amusing this morning!

Great! I enjoyed the earlier ones made many years ago.

Flame Trees of Thika is a great series and well worth watching if you can find it.

I'm watching an old TV series from 1977-81 called Soap. I'm about 2 1/2 seasons into it. It ran 4 seasons (1/2 hour episodes) and is a little over the top with a possessed baby and alien abduction. I'm watching it more for nostalgic reasons because I watched it when I was a kid. It's rated 8.3 at imdb. I believe the series ended with a lot of open ends.

Watched “The Best Man” (1964) on TCM last night. Great political drama with some interesting shades that resonate today.

I wish Norman Lear's soap opera spoof, "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," would come back on the air (or web, whatever). It was more of a dark comedy than "Soap," I think more "Addams Family" to "Soap's" "The Munsters." Martin Mull being impaled on an artificial Christmas tree is one memorable moment.

Looks like the complete MHMH series is available on DVD for 50 bucks. I'll have to get through my "Burn Notice" DVD set first.

"Boston Legal". DVD box set. Full series.

This is not a really a legal show. It's more of a comedy. There are hijinks that happen inside the courtroom that would never be allowed in real life. Example, a mute person "testifies" by playing a cello and her lawyer interprets. The lawyer asks the mute person a question, she plays a few bars of music on the cello and the lawyer then tells the court what the witness was saying. Completely legit, right?

The main character, Alan Shore, played by James Spader is a egotistical, misogynist @$$. Denny Crane, senior partner, played by William Shatner is a serial sexual harasser.

It's extremely politically biased as well. Tiresomely so.

DW loves it so I have to watch it. "Only" 3 1/2 more seasons to go.

I’ve been rewatching this. The political bias as usual is definitely annoying. But I love the Denny Crane character and the humor. Enjoying it tremendously.
William Shatner had the great fortune to portray two of the best characters in television imo. Captain Kirk and Denny Crane.

We've been streaming "Corner Gas," a Canadian sitcom set in Dog River Saskatchewan. It was produced from 2004 through 2009. It was the #1 sitcom in Canada through its entire six season run. Found it on Freevee.

I’ll never forget James Spader in Sex, Lies, and Videotape.

Shatner having a flashback to his Star Trek days.

A recent episode we watched concerned a distraught 20-something woman who sued the US army because her brother was killed in Iraq by an IED during the war. Never mind that it's impossible for citizens to sue the US military meaning no judge would ever grant a hearing, yet the show must go on. The episode seem to exist solely to give Alan Shore the opportunity to rail against US involvement in Iraq.

Another example is the episode where Denny Crane is giving the closing argument in a trial involving the ban on assault weapons. Since Crane is the showrunner's ridiculous caricature of a conservative he is arguing the pro-gun position.

He enters the courtroom dressed in costume as a Boston Minuteman from the 1770's and is carrying a musket. During his rambling, incoherent closing argument appealing to patriotism, he fires the musket which takes down several ceiling tiles. The bailiff does not apprehend him, he is not arrested, he is not removed from the courtroom, he is allowed free reign to continue his argument. Yep, that's a realistic portrayal of our legal system.

It seemed a little like the Andy Griffith Show rebooted in a gas station in the Canadian midwest. Enjoyable for sure.
