What OLD series/movies are you watching? *Spoilers welcome!*

Not watching it because I can't find it anywhere, but does anyone remember Fernwood Tonight with Martin Mull and Fred Willard? Show used to crack me up.

ETA.....Just found episodes on youtube
I don’t recall that one, but those same two comedians on a show called _America 2 Night_. I was a kid in 1978 when it was on and found it to be funny, but I probably missed a lot of the adult humor and innuendos.

... I don’t know if this qualifies as an old show, being just 10 yrs old, but we are watching The Night Of on HBO. It is really good, but may be too intense for some.
Thanks - good recommendation! Great writing, casting, acting, etc. An implausible plot development towards the end of the series slightly mars the verisimilitude; otherwise, no complaints. An online review said that the series doesn’t break new ground, but it covers old ground exceptionally well. I agree. :)

I was able to watch 67 of the 78 episodes of Justified before my free month of hulu expired. Man that is a good show.

We always like to watch an old series after watching some intense shows. Helps us to relax before bed. Finished old Fraiser so started "Boston Legal" on Hulu. Very irreverent law series with James Spader and William Shatner.
One good thing about being old is after a few months the shows are like watching them for the first time. Almost.

2 years ago I watched both Deadwood and The Wire. My, oh my. I actually didnt like The Wire for the 1st few episodes but I stuck with it and it was amazing!
If I don't like something after 1 episode, I give up on it. There's too many other things to watch. Never watched The Wire, though, after reading some about what it was about.

Deadwood and The Wire are the best series I've ever watched besides The Sopranos. The Sopranos is #1 for me. Those 3 are far and away the best I've ever watched.

I'm not into drugs or the inner city, thats why it took me a few episodes to warm up to The Wire.

We all have different tastes. I wouldn't watch Sopranos. I did like Breaking Bad off of Montefo's list. If there's a large number of episodes to watch, I'm less likely to watch, although I did do that with Gunsmoke (635 episodes).

I'd add Justified and Season 1 of Fargo (B. B. Thornton).
I have seen a couple of episodes of Justified and it looked great. I stopped because too violent for wife. Does it ease up?

Don't know Fargo other than the great Coen Brothers movie.

I've always liked Gunsmoke... Watched it regularly for several decades now. Every time I think I've seen them all, I'll run across one I've never seen. But that's getting pretty rare these days.

My son gave me the full series of Boston Legal on DVD. My wife and I both agreed to stop after season 3. The show makes a farce out of the law and the two main characters, Spader and Shatner, are lecherous, dirty old men. It's basically a comedic soap opera loosely involving legal cases.

The series did have its moments.

My friends on the bench have to head home each morning to also watch Gunsmoke and the next day we have to hear about it. :)

My wife and I just finished The Practice, which was the original show that spun off Boston Legal. You might give that a try. We really liked it.

Currently working our way through Mad Men.

If you can find it watch the spoof of Gunsmoke done by the Maverick TV show. It's called GunShy and features a sheriff named Mort Dooley who always manages to be somewhere else when the going gets tough.

Other characters also spoof Miss Kitty, Chester and the Doc.

Yes, The Practice is probably the best legal drama ever produced. I've seen the entire series twice. I just finished my second go around about 6 months ago.

I loved The Practice.

I'm watching Suits now for the 1st time, almost thru season 3. I watched the new LA Suits last year and I really liked it so I decided to watch Suits and its really good. LA Suits was cancelled after 1 season.

Recently started Twin Peaks. I had never watched it all the way through - only a few episodes here and there. But I love David Lynch’s work. Eraserhead is a classic in my book. No one else in my family agrees with me, though. :)
I also started Twin Peaks recently, having never watched it but remember it being very popular. I was initially pretty turned off by the insanely cheesy acting and couldn't understand how this show was so popular. I kept at it and by episode 4 I was getting into the mystery and even writing down notes of all the characters to try to keep track of everything happening.

Lynch has a habit of mixing intentionally cheesy acting in one scene put up against the most serious in-depth performances in the next. That style is not for everyone, but is part of what I like about his style. Some of that changes as other directors and writers get involved as season 2 goes along. Season 2 has some dry, low points, but ends dramatically.

A few other things to look for as you watch (no spoilers):
- The number of actor connections. Russ Tamblyn and Richard Beymer were both in West Side Story. There are others.
- Ray Wise: the guy is a brilliant actor who has all kinds of moments from serious to totally cheesy. I can't say much more except to say that when he makes appearances today, he's totally into the singing and will sing for audiences. No auto-tune required.

"I'm the Devil!"

Loved that show...my introduction to Missy Peregrym.
