What was your happiest moment today?

the only thing missing is the crew to spread 9 tons of pea gravel while you sit under an umbrella w/a cold drink

Yeah. Nobody wants to work free. So I got a "garden dump cart" from Waldo, and have a few shovels.
So the crew is one old guy aka me. No prediction on how long it will take. But I can use some exercise.
Cold drinks when I am done with each phase. Daily.

I had an appointment to renew my driver's license today. Walked into the DOL office, and almost fell over. No line, no wait, the man in charge of renewals told me to step right up to the counter, and I was out in less than 5 minutes.

Was that even real?!

Our oldest friend on Island agreed to look after our place while we're on the Mainland. Monitor the car, the mail and hurricane windows. Big relief.

Went into a nuclear submarine today, got to meet the crew and learn about the capabilities, mission, and operations of the boat. Very impressive group of sailors.

And best of all, I successfully descended and ascended numerous ladders without falling or hitting my head!

Wanted a new little gadget, and looked them up on Amazon. One of the first ones listed said I had bought one in 2017, and I had completely forgotten about it. Went looking, and found it. Replaced the battery, and it's as good as new. Saved me well over $30, so it was a happy moment, thanks to Amazon keeping track of my purchases.

Truly a surreal Twilight Zone experience. I can't imagine, even in WV which is far better than MD.

The automatic hatch on the RAV4 has not been working for a few months. Found out the system had a safety lockout, and able to reset the system thru a multi-step process The hatch is working again. We visited HD and bought LOTS of flowering plants and a big Jalapeño plant that already has a few peppers.

Yesterday DD and DGS come over and brought me a card he had made and a vase of flowers.
DS and DGS here today.

Brunch with my daughter and in-laws. Great time!

Living in a small town, that's been every experience with driver's license renewals and other bureaucratic needs (permits, registrations, etc.). We just walk in, chat with a familiar face and everything is done in just a few minutes.

Relaxing after getting home from a 6 week RV trip on the AL and FL gulf coast and getting about 50% of the RV unloaded.

Went hiking with my better-half and the pups this afternoon. The weather was perfectl with a warm sun and a cool breeze.

Giving my wife her mother's day presents this morning. She just got a new iPad last week so my daughter and I got her a new Apple Pencil (because of course her old one isn't compatible with the new model) and a Bluetooth keyboard for it.

Several posters have noted in here that happiness generally equates to better health ("other things being equal" - e.g., genetically-based diseases, and of course YMMV). And many have mused that the "simple things" (e.g., sunsets, walks in the great outdoors) now mean more to them than material things, and that these "simple things" mean more to them as they age.

However - one poster, interestingly enough, pointed out, "Then why do we have a 'pet peeve of the day' page in here but not a 'happy moments' page?" Good question, and one that I want to address. If happiness generally equates to better health, then we should enjoy and pass on our happy moments - right? Maybe readers can also smile at our happy moments and maintain or improve their health. I'm hoping so.

So with that in mind, what was your happiest moment today?

I'll start. My happiest moment yesterday was when I got to the hotel last night and relished that fact that I'm that much closer to my last hour of w*rk before retirement (which will be Monday at 9:00 - out-processing from the military!).
The electrician showed up. Happy Day!

Waiting on the other contractors..........

Reviewed NW statement again and I added a calculation for %Roth of my NW. Came out (wait for it) 33%! I was a bit surprised and delighted by that. I haven't added to my Roths for several years but apparently I did a reasonable j*b of converting, back in the day.

I'm gratified that my Roths have grown nicely and now overshadow things like my 401(k) (which I've been taking from regularly to live on).

I'm sure others here have a much larger percent Roth but 1/3 Roth makes me realize I can keep my taxes relatively low if I need to, simply by taking more from Roths (after 401(k) RMDs). My goal is still to deplete my 401(k) first and then think about Roths (and things like I-bonds, etc.).

Just checked what mine is. It's just under 7%.

The sad thing is, now that I'm retired and our insurance went up 5X this year from last year, we cannot really afford to do any Roth conversions and still be able to afford insurance. Hopefully things will be different by the time I reach age 59-1/2.

I got lucky (maybe a little bit smart) and converted a bunch before my SS (and MC) kicked in. I didn't really know what I was doing but, looking back, I did the right things. THEN the markets took off!

Doubly blessed I guess I would say.

Our Roth is at 0.6% :) Just did our first Roth conversion last year.

Happiest moment? My boy and his partner had a baby boy about a week ago. He has been in the NICU for about a week. Just a bit early. Last thing he needs to do is drink 60 ml of his formula. He about 60-70% right now. I held him feeding for about 3 hours today with 20 minutes of feeding. It was wonderful. I've held him almost every day but today seemed especially wonderful

Congratulations, Scrapr! Grandchildren are such a blessing.

happiest moment today, early morning water aerobics with my sister at the Y.
Thankful to have all my siblings live close.

Same as Tuesday, and unlike yesterday, I didn't see a soul on my entire ride.

Today was six days in a row of riding since recovering from my thumb injury.

Went to my Eye Doctor who is monitoring me every 4 months for Glaucoma. Eye pressure didn’t change again and vision is still 20/20 with the same prescription multi- focal contact lenses he’s had me in for years! Can never take your eyes or vision for granted…life could be very different! Very thankful! 🙏
