How cool!!!! Do you recall which mountain/hike it is? I want to say it may have been Peaks of Otter but that may just be another hike we did that was also glorious.

McAfee Knob.
If you Google it there are lots of pics. And some great YouTube vids. It is usually described as the most photographed spot on the Appalachian Trail!
Well done!
I got so excited about this thread, I changed my avatar. It's my dog Birdie at daycare and dressed for the XMAS visit. He hated it.
Oh! Thanks!Umm, you better update your signature line, too, then!![]()
Yes it's Belushi, from the movie "Animal House". If you didn't see the movie then you wouldn't get the semi-funny joke in my post. And no, I'm not a senatorThat is a picture of John Belushi right? So were you a U.S. Senator?
Do you remember what varietal that is?My previous avatar pic was an artistic photo of the 2017 total solar eclipse, which was the first one I ever saw. Incredibly moving and mesmerizing. The current one is emblematic of my interest in all things wine. Vineyards in the fall, loaded with clusters of ripe purple berries, are some of my favorite soul-enriching landscapes to visit.
It's a stunning picture, indeed. I'm glad you chose it because I like to see it often.I lived among the American Indian all my life. I have great respect for their culture and history.
Cool! My neighborhood is around a hotel owned by (in part) George Hincapie and they have a huge race starting there every year called the Gran Fondo Hincapie. I don't ride but they have free food and beer so I always walk over after they kick everything off.I’m an avid bicycle racer. Have been for my entire life. Had dreams of making the big leagues when I was a junior racer. Satisfied as an amateur hack in regional events.
Just love the whole experience. Lining up at the start and the nerves behind the line. The second the man says go when we accelerate as a pack to the first turn. The focus on the wheel just a few feet in front of you as your entire world while trying to keep the guy on your rear wheel behind you.
And the finish line when we all become friends again and share a beer and a few race stories.
I too enjoy jumping to the posters whose responses I find most helpful, and their cute avatars make that easier. But then, some like to change their avatar just for variety, and that messes me up.I don't understand the purpose of avatars. . . What purpose does the little picture serve in that?
