Give me a museum and I'll fill it. (Picasso) Give me a forum ...
I still remember his funky high pitched karate noises, ha ha. I hear them when I see your avatar. My brothers, my cousins, and I were big Bruce Lee fans in the ‘70’s.

It’s nice personalized decoration, and I recognize an avatar before I recognize a name.I don't understand the purpose of avatars. I come to read, learn, ask questions, maybe have fun in some threads, and someday if I learn enough, maybe even help someone else with their question. What purpose does the little picture serve in that?
Ambergris, close to the north bridge. San Pedro has gotten so much busier in the last 15 years. We now vaca in a small coastal village on the mainland. Recently they paved the coastal road so now that village is getting "discovered" too.Nice!
Ambergriz? Or Caulker?
I too enjoy jumping to the posters whose responses I find most helpful, and their cute avatars make that easier. But then, some like to change their avatar just for variety, and that messes me up.
I find the avatars, including that turkey, helpful in that way, too. I'm still a newbie, but maybe if I get to the stage where I have learned enough here that I start giving back--being one of those "posters whose responses I find most helpful"--an avatar of my own will be useful to others. It’s nice personalized decoration, and I recognize an avatar before I recognize a name.
Approaching the state park entrance today on bicycle, about a dozen turkey toms trotted past us. Wow, they are really starting to show their breeding plumage!Just one of the wild turkey toms in the state park next door.

If you're on the forum enough you spot people by their avatar faster than from the username.Look for one, load it to your profile and you may understand.
Exactly. And I am name challenged (horrible at remembering names!) but very visual. I remember the avatar photos way easier than the name, and can find my favorite posters faster that way.If you're on the forum enough you spot people by their avatar faster than from the username.
That's one practical reason in addition to the more whimsical side.
You can attach a picture to your post...it looks pretty cool by zooming in on your avatar.I never really thought about people's avatars, or lack thereof, until just now reading this thread.
So I edited mine from the letter A to show a 2007 sunset photo I took from Mallory Square in Key West.
It looks better in full size.![]()
So I see a lot of interesting avatars and was curious why you peeps chose yours. Is there a story or meaning behind yours? My current one is from a black light poster I had growing up. Its from a 1975 poster called Super Shark. Its a bit of nostalgia of the good old teenage days.
I actually found a smaller version of the poster on EBay and bought it and had it framed.
