Who wants a mansion?

Well I learned something from the comments. I now have a 2 1/2 bath house. I thought it was only 2. Been using the 1/2 a lot this week. We are in a part on NE TN that got hit hard with flooding from the hurricane. We came through fine and no property damage nut no electricity or water since last Friday. So every time I go out to check the generator I stop in the 1/2 bath.

I grew up in trailers and apartments. I did not live in a single family house until my senior year of high school, and that was only 1000 sqft for five of us. There were not enough bedrooms, so I slept in the cellar for 8 months until I left home. My current (and so far only) house is 2505 sqft just for the young wife and me, and I like it just fine. We use every room on a regular basis, except the guest bedroom.

If that's a house, they should call it Sociopath Hall. :poop:

So big it's ridiculous. Could be a hotel I guess. I'll stick to a reasonable size place. 1300 SF 2 baths + garage and shed works here.

I've been in my 1,459 sq. ft. house for a year now and only use about 1/2 the space. There are three rooms I never go in. Why did I buy this place seeing no new spouse (or live in) is in the cards? I do like my garage, though!

For house guests? A little extra beats not enough. I like our garage too, (y)

So curious how many bedrooms you had. If only 2 and both sexes I get sleeping in the basement otherwise not.

It was a 3 bedroom house. My parents had one and my sister had one. I could have shared the 3rd with my younger brother, as I had always done up to that point in my life, but I just didn't want to do it anymore, so I slept in the cellar.

A mansion is fine as long as it comes with a staff to clean it and maintain it, inside and out. And, it must also come with the money to pay for those needs. Also toss in money for insurance and property taxes.

Our house is a 1700sqft ranch. I’m pretty happy with it but I think ideal would be about 2000sqft. That would give me the larger primary bedroom with attached bathroom that this house doesn’t have. I like that we have three bedrooms - our main bedroom and each of us have an office. No real guest bedroom, but we have a twin bed in DW’s office that makes due in a pinch and is fine for our most frequent overnight guest - our grand daughter.

This house actually backs up a theory I have that, as you move to more expensive houses, you tend to get more for your money. I know location is everything, but to use one example, my house might go for close to $1M right now. But, when I look at that $15M compound, I'm seeing a LOT more than 15x the value of my home!

But, once you get up into more extravagant territory like that, the houses do tend to be customized. And that's going to limit their appeal. The few people who can actually afford something like that, would probably just build what they really want, rather than taking on someone else's dream home and trying to alter it to fit their desires. And, there's simply more competition for less expensive homes, as there are more buyers.

It's a moot point though, as it's still way too much property for me, and even if someone gave it to me free and clear, the utilities, property tax, upkeep, etc would kill me.

My sister and I always had to share a bedroom and she was 8 years older than me. I was fascinated watching her and her friends ratting and spraying their big hair before going to a dance:)).

We have been in Texas hill country for over a week and if the weather in Spring TX is like it is here, I can’t imagine what the air conditioning would run. Of course, I can’t imagine paying the property taxes either. I would have no desire for a house like this one. I am looking forward to returning to our approximately 1800 sq ft house and our fall weather. I don’t do heat well, the older I get. I am sure that I would like the weather here better in the winter than at home.
