Just watched a short video of an Optimus robot dancing....quite a bit better actually than I could ever dance lol.

This stuff is close...like, coming to a store near you in a couple years. Cheap too, maybe $20,000 to $30,000?

At first I was, "nah" but then..."Optimus, please clean the toilet, then climb on the roof and clean the gutters, k, thx"

Maybe if I see it doing all that stuff at someone else’s house……

If it works as well at cleaning the house etc as my robotic pool cleaner does cleaning my pool it will be worth the price.

I’ll believe it when I see it do something beyond limited tasks. Elon does not have a good track record when it comes to tech rollout timing or pricing…

That said if self driving vehicles and personal robots can extend my independent living years, I’m all for it. My Mom & Dad’s quality of life was never the same once their drivers licenses were taken away.

I would consider a home personal robot in the future. There are things to do around the house that my back does not like anymore. But I have a feeling it will be many years before they are ready for home use. Maybe I'll have my flying car then too....Jetson's!

I give Elon a hat nod for the high tech introduction to this type of product. Once a product is available the advancement will continue to get better as a product.
If not to old at the time one comes available that would be able to make my life better. I would be very interested in purchasing one.

No.
However, I do plan to buy another brand once they are ready for home and general use.

There seems to be a lot of competition in that area.

100%. This.

After spending yesterday cleaning an apartment and telling someone I would not be paying him to blow off our porch roof for $250 I'm looking to invest in robots. Is it wacky to think that grunt labor isn't worth $100/hr, much less $200?

If the maker gives me $30K, I might take it as a test drive.
Does it do Argentine Tango? Lindy Hop? Bachata?

Actually doing home cleaning, driving, grocery shopping and other routine work helps to live longer. Those machines are here to cut our lives short.

Since we currently do those tasks ourselves (i.e., don't pay someone else to do them), then I don't see buying a robot. Once we start paying for those services, then we would consider a robot if that is the best value/solution.

I am looking forward to having an Optimus wiping my butt and changing my diapers in a few years. And an AI Agent managing my finances and making sure I get cared for properly. Should have sired some kids to do that work. Too late now. Have to hope for Optimus.

Reading that gave me a *really* bad mental picture of what could go wrong if it gets hacked...

Singular data point - once my parents stopped engaging in routine daily tasks, their health went downhill at a fast rate. This is an attractive purchase to me only after I am physically unable to maintain things myself. Once I hit that point, any form of assistance is in play to keep me living independently.

Agreed that physical activity is important.
I personally would rather walk through the woods, or around the block, than clean gutters or pick weeds :)

I’ll take it as soon as available.

I'll watch with interest, but let someone else go first and see what happens. Or doesn't happen.

I'm waiting for you early adopters to report back

Anyone see “Ex Machina?” Interesting? Plausible?
