Anyone watching? I'll be watching men's and women's ice hockey. I have Peacock already, so no big deal.

I may watch some other stuff.

I saw an article in the WSJ about some figure skating phenom from the USA, Ilia Malinin. He is a master of quadruples and even calls himself the "quad god." I know very little about figure skating except for the funny names which are frequently named after past masters. I do know that they've been talking about quads for at least 30 years, and nobody has been able to consistently pull them off. But this guy has.

So I looked at the article (gift link: https://www.wsj.com/sports/olympics...f?st=ihutZu&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink)

And I realized I can't tell the difference between a triple and quad. I guess I better stick with hockey.

I watch a lot of the Summer Olympics but i'm not interested in any Winter sports. I was going to watch to see if Lindsey Vonn can get a medal despite tearing her ACL a couple weeks ago but then I found out her event is on very early in the morning and I have no way to record it so I guess i'll just watch highlights later in the day.

That jump is amazing!
I always enjoyed the ice skating. Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton and his back flip!
Haven't watched it in a while, as you can tell by those older skaters--lol.

Yes, watching women's freestyle skiing as I write. Speed skating was on earlier, no interest in that. Mens hockey is going to be my go to.

Sort of "cold" on the winter Olympics. ;)

I'll probably watch Lindsey Vonn's events with all the hype around here injury.

Watching the USA beat the tar out of Finland in women's hockey right now. Mixed doubles curling could be interesting as the two best (USA-GBR) met in preliminaries and GBR beat USA in a close call. Meanwhile, USA men curling are doing better. This should be fun to watch. I gotta say, curling is ridiculously fun to watch for old people. It seems so accessible, but... it takes some athleticism. I first watched it 20 years ago in the Olympics and got hooked. Before that, I heard about it since the 1970s but it was never really accessible. I've had friends over the last 15 years ask for me to actually participate in curling tournaments. I'm in the south (NC!) and we have rinks that set up curling from time to time (it takes a special way to prepare ice). But I think I aged out just as curling fun became popular. Look, you can fall and break a hip. Not joking.

I understand the "cold" feeling about winter Olympics. It always felt like a nod to the Nordic countries. I grew up in a winter zone, and had some Olympic athletes from my area, so I feel more connected. Eric Heiden (1980) comes to mind. Also, 1980 USA Men's Hockey.

But I get it, a lot of sports don't connect with the common man. How many people go out on skis and try to kill reindeer. Biathon: I'm looking at you!

NBC Peacock coverage looks to be as good as it was in the ‘24 summer games.

Regards figure skating. Not interested till they allow the reinstatement of the famous Iron Lotus.

Yeah, looks good. Anyone remember the "Triple Cast in 1992?" NBC tried to charge $100 to $170 to watch three cable channels. Inflation adjusted, this is $130+ today. Absolutely ridiculous, and it failed spectacularly.

I'm enjoying poking into various events this afternoon.

If you like curling, or even curious, there's a whole lot going on in the front end of the Olympic two weeks. As I write, this, 1:15 EST, USA doubles are playing Korea.

Will be some great moments.

Who can forget the epic call of Jessie Diggins' cross country run in 2018?

Yes! I remember that. I think one thing about the winter games is that the USA, or even continental Europe, don't dominate many events outside of skating, ice dancing, some hill-based skiing events and hockey. It is so Nordic focused. So when we have the USA winning cross-country, or Jamacia even entering the event, or Eddy the Eagle ski jumping... it is memorable.

I think it’s less so today with the addition of new-ish snow sports such as snowboarding and freestyle skiing.

Oh, yeah, you are right. My niece is a snowboard freak and loves the winter Olympics.

USA is crazy dominent in those areas. But remember, I'm on the ER forum, and that stuff was after my time. :) Norway better pay attention otherwise they'll go the way of Greece in swimming who said, "What, nobody wants to run nude anymore?"

I’m a big fan of Winter Olympics and have been watching for the last couple of days. I’ll watch a lot of events, but will have to skim through some of them, otherwise there’s not enough time. One of these years, I will BTD and attend the Winter Olympics in person. Maybe next time, in France?

My go to sport is hockey, mostly Men’s, but I enjoy Women’s too. I’ve watched a few Women’s games so far, but it’s dominated by USA and Canada. I would be surprised if they don’t win gold/silver (again). It’s more of a competition to see who wins bronze. :) Still fun to watch.

Watching Women’s 10k + 10k Skiathlon now, mostly in the background while doing other stuff.

Peacock coverage has been excellent. A schedule of all the events recorded to watch anytime is great, and no pesky commercial interruptions. I remember dealing with subpar coverage in the past, struggling to find events that I wanted to watch. I’m so happy those days are over.

I watch some of the events at random, but am more interested in hockey.

Generally not an Olympics fan but I do like to watch the downhill skiing, bobsleds, luge, speed skating, ski jumps...anything fast. But I don't make appoimtments to watch those events. If I catch them, I catch them.

I almost always have a positive outlook, but this is no surprise. A crash was a probable outcome with no left ACL.
I disagree that it was a probable outcome given her results in the two training runs proceeding the ladies downhill.. She was quite competitive despite her injuries.
In the final women's Olympic downhil run on Saturday (Feb. 7, 2026), Lindsey Vonn placed third with a time of 1:38.28, just 0.37 seconds behind teammate Breezy Johnson. Despite a previous knee injury, this impressive performance followed her 11th-place finish in Friday's training run.

She did fine on the training run the day before. Vonn just went for gold or nothing and she got nothing.
