It's official: WKRP is coming to Cincinnati.

""Those are arguably the most famous call letters associated with Cincinnati radio, even though it was a television series about an imaginary radio station. It was extremely successful for a considerable number of years," Ziesmann said

WKRP-FM's signal will broadcast from the old WPFB-FM tower in Middletown and will serve listeners from Cincinnati to Dayton, per WVXU."

I do recall watching the show back when.....

"Baby, if you've ever wondered, wondered whatever became of me...I'm living on the air in Cincinnatti...Cincinnatti WKRP"

In the top 10 of TV comedies of all time!! During my freshman year in college I worked at a small town AM/FM station. We didn't have a Jennifer Marlowe but we had a Herb Tarlek.

Definitely one of my all-time favorite sitcoms.

It's too bad they never were able to get the rights to use *ALL* of the original music in the series when it was released to DVD. Shout! Factory did a pretty good job, obtaining the rights to about 85% of the original music.

But several hold-outs prevented it being 100%. Most anything from the Warner Music Group, which included Atlantic Records and Elektra Records, was excluded.

Pink Floyd also refused to give their blessing, which required slicing and dicing the scene with Dr. Fever and Mr. Carlson in the booth during their Turkeys Away episode.

I have fond memories of watching with my dad. He had a great laugh and he loved that show! I did too.

I also enjoyed that show. And yes, I remember the turkey drop off. It was one of those things, I thought I shouldn't have found funny, but I laughed until it hurt..

It's local for me, so looking forward to listening to the broadcast of 60-80s music.

Great memories. Strange as every character was, they were all believable.

Always wondered why a Cinci station didn't adopt the call letters. Of course, with that call sign, it may be difficult to live up to expectations!

The show years coincided with my time as a radio DJ, engineer, and a term as station manager at my college radio station. So it was a must watch for the station staff.
I was working at a rock radio station when the show was aired. The station had some personalities that mirrored the show.

I liked how the sales guy (Phill) would dress in loud suit coats.

The news guy (Les?) would always have a band aid on his face somewhere. I think he did the farm report too.

Every major market in the upper mid west did the farm markets many times a day until recently.

Les Nessman was the best.

Yes. I have a Les Nessman office. It's in the corner of our Living room (I don't have the tape on the floor like Les did, but when I'm at my desk DW will occasionally "knock" before asking me something.

The best joke about WRKP is they clearly came up with those call letters to mean KRAP. I don't think it is ever uttered, but it is a great inside joke.

The current WKRP exists and broadcasts near me. Its power is so low I cannot pick it up. It may have a range of 10 miles, max. The guy who owns it is going to put the proceeds of the call letter sale to some non-profit to benefit people interested in starting broadcasting careers. Apparently, he can continue with his station as "WKRP-LP" if the big WKRP allows it, which they apparently will.

Lived in Cincy for decades, and went to college at UC. One year I lived in an apartment above a used record store across the street from campus. Very old building, sort of a row house set up. During one of the intro sequences used for WKRP, there is shot of that stretch of building, including the record store (I always figured that's what attracted them to that shot), a bar, and a couple of other retail places along with the apartments above them. Three stories high, IIRC. Haven't seen a show in quite awhile, but when I did I'd always watch to see if it included my apartment in the intro!

I grew up in Cincy and left the place when I turned 18. The first season they had a shot of the Eden Park overlook. There was (is?) and stone building concession stand. My first paid summer job was at that concession stand. I always enjoyed the show.

We loved the show. A couple favs along with those above are the ti e they did commercial for the funeral home e and the one where Johnny thought Jennifer was gonna come to his place for romantic evening. He had his silk robe folded under couch cushion to “iron” it. 😂😂😂

Les also did the traffic reports. He made it sound like he was in a helicopter by beating on his chest while talking. So funny!

Herb Tarlick(sp?) was the sales guy.
