Xmas jewelry present for DW. Give it to her now or wait until Xmas?

ETA- I missed the usually!
I’m not a fan of delayed gratification. I watched my father do that so he could die at 52.
That is sad. Sorry to hear it. You learned a life lesson the hard way and now share it with us.

I wouldn't notice that if you left it there 500 years and put a flashing light above it. Being observant is not my forte. :)
Yeah, wife has occasionally accused me of being oblivious. Heh, heh, unlike all my friends here who think I'm very observant.

Oh- I didn’t mean for it to be sad. It was about 50 years ago.
This is a happy thread- I hope!
I’m guessing OP wife is going to be thrilled.

She hasn't noticed it yet. Darn thing sparkles like crazy in the sunlight and it is right next to the TV, but nothing yet. Might have to move it to the nutcracker with the black beard.

Reminds me when I gave my wife diamond stud earrings.

I inserted them into the ear lobes of a ragdoll that was supposed to be for her and our newborn daughter. She didn't pick up on anything until our daughter grabbed at it and I freaked, thinking she'd pull out an earring and eat it.

Wife was very surprised and commented "they were so big I thought they were fake."

I just moved the nutcracker it is on so it is crooked and out of place. She'll notice that before she sees the diamond. She has CDO. That is OCD in alphabetical order.
DW is a bit like that. I had my "pharmacy" all lined up the way I liked it on my Les Nessman desk. DW couldn't stand that the bottle heights were not low to high and she "fixed it" for me while she was at the computer. Oh, did I tell you she is also a "multi-tasker"?

By the way, I showed her the picture and she spotted the diamond right away.

Couldn't stand it. DW went to the hair place so I moved it to the other side on the black bearded nutcracker.

It's much clearer on that one.

This doesn't work a treasure hunt might be fun. Set up a bunch of hints on index cards hidden around the house leading to the prize.

You must me going crazy. lol I'd be so anxious.

Yeah, make it fun!

Do keep us posted. Almost wish I could bet there when she finds it.

Maybe you should have a hidden video camera to capture the moment when she realizes it.

I will admit I am enjoying this.

Well, she never noticed it on her own. I decided to try to draw attention to it so I went up and looked at the 4 nutcrackers on the mantle and said "hmmm, this one has a crooked foot." She said "yeah, it's been like that." So I fixed the foot and put it back on the mantle. Nothing.

Maybe she already saw the diamond and was just messing with me? So I said, "Hon, do you notice anything weird about any of the nutcrackers?" She said "What did you do?" assuming I had drawn male genitals on one of them. I said "look closer at them." "No the ones on the other side." Took her a few more seconds and she FINALLY noticed the diamond. Pure surprise! Mission Accomplished!

I told her it had been hanging there since Wednesday and I couldn't stand it anymore. She is super happy and cried saying she didn't get me anything, it cost too much, it's too huge, etc... But after 36 years of marriage, I know she loves it.

Now I can't wait until Xmas morning when she finds the earrings in her stocking. Not even gonna try to hide them.

I’m so glad that you updated us and that she was happy about the gift.
I can’t believe that she never saw it. It sparkled like crazy in the picture.
Honestly- sometimes it’s more rewarding to give someone something that you know they will really enjoy and appreciate than to get a gift yourself.

What a great story. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely give it to her now. My husband surprised me with a diamond pendant from Rogers & Hollands just "because" right before a string of summer weddings, and it was the best feeling ever. Plus, jewelry is meant to be worn, not sit in a drawer for months waiting for December. Just get her something small or plan a nice date night for actual Christmas so she still has something to open.
