Well the new year is soon upon us so time to look back over the past 12 months to ask ourselves what was our favorite purchase in 2024? This year I had a couple which were finalists but in 2023 we took in an emergency foster dog and adopted her officially in 2024, She has been an unexpected joy during a most challenging year!

Here she is:

(Runner up purchase was a BTD private car service from Naples to Rome. My wife did not want the ordeal with the train due to some potential health/mobility challenges so we splurged on a private car. The real treat was that day we took the trip the taxi's in Naples all went on strike, so it was extra crazy traffic that day (IYKYK). We were so glad to have lucked out with an easy escape that day! Saw a lot of tourists lugging bags onto public busses and looking very stressed...not us!

So what was your best purchase for 2024?

My best purchase was the money I spend on golf. Beyond greens fees, the bast money was on some lessons. I bought a three month package at GolfTec and focused on my driver. I was much straighter and about 20 longer this season than in the past. The people I golf with absolutely noticed the difference. The spend on greens fees is so worth it. To get out on a regular basis and engage with a group of guys is a joy, no matter how I score. The one thing I miss about work is the social interaction and golf helps with that a lot.

Our best purchase was a week at Margaritaville in Riviera Maya as part of a group to celebrate our friend’s birthday. We hadn’t been on a week-long vacation just the two of us for probably 5 years or so. I haven’t seen my wife so relaxed in years. Worth every penny.

Best purchase and time spent this year was taking kids and grandkids to Hawaii, first class flight and resort living for a week including Luau and swim with Dolphins.
Spendy, but very well worth it for the smiles on grandkids faces  Two years planning and putting money aside. Hope to do it again in a few years.

LG 65 inch tv, although they didn't show up for delivery, so received $300 more dollars.

Roland FRP Nuvola Digital Piano Bundle

It sounds and feels like a good piano. I can play midi files. It also has an app that I can do a lot with.

Absolutetly without a doubt is the 12K we spent for a week on a 50ft sailboat with friends in the Virgin Islands. It came with a captain, cook, three fantastic meals a day and unlimited bar. I can honestly say it was in the top 5 vacations in our life, and we've had a lot of them.

Taking the family to Chicago- twice. This year the 5-year old was finally old enough to come with his 2 sisters in April. On a whim I asked DDIL if she wanted to come since I was getting 2 adjoining rooms. Sure. I'd assumed DS would stay home since he had an actuarial exam the next month but asked him- yes, he wanted to join us. It was cold but we had so much fun! We did the usual that the girls have loved- hotel room with the view of the airport across the street, the Children's Museum, the Subway, Ben and Jerry's at the food Court, and occasionally Uber when we don't want to bother with the subway. We've had great luck with Uber drivers- friendly and usually from someplace interesting. The last was from Mongolia.

And DS still passed his exam. We went again in October.

I focus on building the kids' 529 accounts and sharing experiences and don't'get them much Stuff.

My new E-bike. It is a class 2 so it has that little extra power to go up hills. It's good to get something different to get me outside. Also, I paid for it with my first social security check.:greetings10:
FYI, Medicare Part B covers the partial cost or even the rental fee of a power mobility device. This includes mobilized scooters.

Probably my favorite purchase was my Spring trip on Norways Coastal Express on board a Havilla ship. Up and down the coast of Norway over 12 days plus a couple days in Oslo and Bergen.

2nd favorite goes to my 2024 Lincoln Nautilus. The new model car, however, has also been one of my biggest frustrations this year. Lots of relatively minor electronics and functional issue to iron out. But I still love the car.

Living in the northeast, a cellular based remote starter for my truck. The factory FOB wasn't cutting it.

A cruise tour to Alaska. We scored some airline credit that we needed to use in 2024 and DH mentioned that he would like to see Alaska.

We bought very little this year in the way of things, because we have everything we need and most of the things we have ever thought to want. We did spend a fairly substantial sum to go to Japan with my nephew and his wife. I consider that money very well spent.

#1 Travel - Western states trip, Ireland, Iceland, and the UP of Michigan.
#2 Upgrading my audio system

KEF R3 Meta speakers
Rotel A14MKII amp
REL T7/X subwoofer
14 ga. speaker wire and premium

Can you share the name of the boat? We've done this often (just spent a week in the BVI's in Dec 2024) and $12K sounds like 2013 prices. Cheers, Ron

Purchased my Winter wheels (rims and tires) in December; put them on in the new year.
Anyone go from Summer tires to Winter tires, in the middle of the frosty season?
So. Much. Grip.
