Your Limited-Edition Foundation Series Cybertruck is Ready to Order!

Hasn't Musk basically said the quiet part out loud that EV cars are in the past and the future is robotaxi and autonomous vehicles and that is what he is betting on now? He claims the AV problem is solvable and he has the resources to solve the problem. The AV problem may be unsolvable given current technology (mostly compute), critical mass (requiring all or most vehicles to be AV) and a victim of too much, too early.

AI/machine learning was mostly unsolvable due to inadequate hardware to close on the problem and only recently has the hardware caught up with the algorithms. This may be a lot like the EV battery problem, too little, too early.

I cannot imagine why anyone finds this so called Cybertruck remotely attractive!
A parent at my grandson's school has a Cybertruck. My 5 year old grandson told me "Grandma, I love that car, someday I will buy it with my own money" So there you have it.

+1

One of the reasons Hertz is selling off all their Tesla's was because of too much downtime due to renters treating them roughly and how long it took to get repairs done, particularly if it involved bodywork.

Renters also don't care about "good" charging practices.
So what are good charging practices? A full charge each time?

I just saw my first one driving back from the pool yesterday. It's ugly and frankly frightening.
Beauty is usually only skin deep but in the case of the Cyber truck, it's ugly to it's frame, (if it has one ;))

No, and renters aren’t likely to charge to 100% anyway as they have to pay for it and it takes longer. Most I expect charge to 80% and Hertz lets you return with 70% to be considered “full”.

Renters are hard on the vehicles though overall.

As a long-term Tesla stock holder, pre 5:1 and 3:1 splits, I just got the email, "Your Limited-Edition Foundation Series Cybertruck is Ready to Order... As a long-term shareholder, you have been prioritized for early delivery of your Foundation Series Cybertruck." 📐😁

The reason for writing this here is because I've told almost nobody besides my other half. I live near a popular airport to peer-to-peer, Turo and Getaround, it. Also, can put it on Peerspace for commercial photos/videos of it. These are time lost (driving to-from airport, getting truck washed, etc...) and I don't drive a ton. W*rk W2 100% remote.

This is for the signature Foundation Series that is going to be done selling after Q3 (Scarcity value), if what Elon said at the Annual Stockholders meeting holds true... amd when had his verbal timing queues been off 🤣

Quick Financial Numbers (40 yo)
B/D: $151,841 (trad ira, Roth, hsa, and $38k non-retirement accounts; maxed roth a few years in a row and will do it again this year)
TSP: $5,244 (contributing to the match)
Crypto money in cash: ~$4,000 (hoping to get more back from BlockFi 🙄)
CD: $51,934 (Emergency Fund)
Bank account: $36,101
Backup bank account: $1,740
Just started Airbnb and it's going to be a Superhost after the first 3 months active. It's made ~$4,000. Will raise the ADR with the Superhost badge. (In the red for a while to make the money back but have BIG plans for it; totally separate post might be written about it)

Today, did the math and will contribute ~$11,440 this year to Roth IRA and Roth TSP.

This does not include other half numbers bc they are significantly smaller 🫣 and don't have them.

What are your thoughts on the subject and what you've read above?
Congratulations on your foresight with Tesla investing......Are you talking about buying a Tesla truck or more $TSLA stock, or wondering if foundation will be calling for your hard earned dinero? I call the Tesla truck "Flintstone's trucks" - when I see them they always make me chuckle - and I recall the Flintstones theme - a good thing to be amused. They look like a theater prop in a large NYC theater production of pre-imagined Sci-fi of now made in the 70s/80s. Tesla has done a good job at mixing vanity with green-environment self image catering to masses --- Robin Leach -> lifestypes of the rich and famous, you too can join the party. Cars and trucks are still point A to point B for me.

Originally, looking for feedback from investors towards FI or FIRE. The truck is too much for us to buy now because it will not be rented. People won't take care of it like we do with Turo Teslas.

Investing, right now, putting all money into S&P500 Index because I'm not 20 yo and already put a bunch in $TSLA. That's why they gave me the Long Term Investor "bump up" to get the truck. There's no timeline on when the truck needs to be purchased so it'll be there until the "time is right."

ABC

Always Be Charging

Unlike phones EVs have intelligent chargers who do not destroy the battery if you keep it connected all the time.

So whenever you park and there is a charger - plug it in.

On the other hand - if you need to charge on a long trip then you get the best result if you drive it down to 5-10% and charge up again to 50-60%

Or if you drive a Tesla charge up again so that you have 5% when you arrive at the next supercharger. You can see this info on the big screen. And the Tesla will tell you when you have enough to leave.

Yep, reminds me of the joke: what's the difference between a rental car and a Jeep?

There are some places you just wouldn't dare try to take a Jeep...

I worked for a supplier to the railroad industry, so have driven rental cars on miles of dirt and gravel. Can confirm, I would not have taken my own Jeep on some of them (if I owned a Jeep)! One of our customers was banned by Hertz after three "incidents" in one year.

Was behind a Cybertruck at a red light the other day, no one else in front. When the light turned green he was off to the races. It does have some serious acceleration, I'm sure it could hold it's own with most sportscars on the road. One commented on their skinny tires, my impression was just the opposite, the tires looked huge, almost unnaturally big for the vehicle, maybe they offer different tire options.

(Decided to move to a more appropriate thread I forgot about)

While driving north during my July Oregon road trip, I saw a Cybertruck heading south on US 101 towing an angular stainless steel trailer (not an Airstream) with 2 solar panels on top.

On the return trip south through the redwoods on US 101 I saw the same Cybertruck with trailer parked outside "Legend of Bigfoot" gift shop in Garberville.

Maybe it was really Bigfoot's Cybertruck and trailer!

Lots of sports cars can out accelerate the CT, "depending" on the CT model. Admittedly, the Beast tri motor model is really quick at a claimed 0-60 in 2.6 "minus rollout" which probably means ~3.0 secs (still that's quick) and the "standard dual motor AWD model is claimed to do 0-60 in 4.1... (That's quick too) but the single motor RWD only model, is claimed to do 0-60 in 6.5 (a slug compared to the other two models) And top speeds are actually pretty slow on all of them with the Beast limited to 130mph and the other models 112mph. Like most really powerful trucks, top speeds are '"usually" limited to tire speed ratings.

I put in my $100.00 deposit 4 years ago when the price for a 2-motor Cybertruck was going to be $50K. I figured, by the time the vehicle became available, that the price would have gone up...but not that it would have nearly doubled! Anyway, I requested and got a refund of my $100.00, which is now worth, what, $80.00? compared with 2020.

I've seen a few Cybertrucks around, and I still like it, although the social media comments seem to be mostly uncomplimentary (one person said he couldn't imagine a "feminine woman"* driving one). It's just too expensive for me now.

*"It's a girl, my luck, in a Cybertruck,
Slowin' down to take a look at me..."

It’s huge! Tires above my waist. Driver door glass at my shoulder. Makes me look like a midget (I’m not).

Yes, Cyber Truck is big. But Chevy has something bigger:
Chevrolet Suburban (GMT1YC) SUV 2020 is 5 cm longer and 13.3 cm higher compared to Tesla Cybertruck Pick-up 2023. It has 15.2 cm less ground clearance and offers 20% more cargo space.
I know, not apples:apples as it is 2020 vs 2023. But, Suburbans are huge too.

I've seen 2 cybertrucks. 1 cruising the strip in Las Vegas. The other cruising a mall in suburban Chicago. I've never seen any here in farm country. And I probably won't. I don't think that they are meant to be work trucks.

A friend of mine sent this to me the other day. He has one like it in his neighborhood.

Well - farmers and builders use them for work.

Agree, there are plenty of pickup trucks bigger than the Cybertruck. The CT is not small but there are a bunch of trucks/SUVs/Suburbans/Escalades/Fiat/etc.. that are larger.
