No, obviously used to people. If you do frighten one, they fly off with a loud croak of annoyance.Caught him after a feeding swim the other morning, I'm pretty sure he is not frightened by me walking by and taking a photo being within 15 feet of him.

Accidentally flushed one last year. Frighten him? Not as much as he spooked me.No, obviously used to people. If you do frighten one, they fly off with a loud croak of annoyance.
Yep - generally the case. But if they are stalking some prey (fish) and if you're more than 50' away, they will stick around in an effort to get a meal. No, obviously used to people. If you do frighten one, they fly off with a loud croak of annoyance.
Perhaps not frighten, but it decided to move away from you. They have a pretty slow lift off and super slow wing beats. Very interesting bird. Successful too in a wide range of habitats/climates as we’ve seen them all the way from Central America to Alaska.Accidentally flushed one last year. Frighten him? Not as much as he spooked me.
Those are powerful wings that move a lot of air!
Wow!!!From a ride I did earlier in the week…
