I wished I had found this web site earlier. I just found it last week but have been recommending it to all my friends who are trying to make up their minds about retirement.

I have 6 1/2 days left of employment and then on to retirement. I have worked in the technology business for over 30 years. Up until the last 5 years, I have enjoyed every moment of it. Now I am just tired of laying off people so we can move more work to India even though the quality is not as good and the commincation problems have left me banging my head on the walls.

I am 55 and spouse is 67. He has been retired for 5 years. How I hated to get out of bed while he could watch the news and sleep in.

After years of research, I am using the "Buckets of Money" approach. That has really been great at increasing our income stream while decreasing our risk.

First thing I have planned in my retirement is to smash my alarm cloak since I won't have 4 or 5 a.m. conference calls any more :dead:.

Welcome. Isn't 4 am a rather rude hour of the morning to be expected to have to function? Show no mercy to that clock :bat:

Ydog, welcome to the board, and congratulations on your impending retirement! Be sure to let us know how retirement goes. Yours is an interesting situation, since your spouse has such a head start.

Best wishes, and enjoy the countdown!

Heh heh...my DW's gonna have to watch me not get up & go to wxxk while she still does for about 3 yrs after I ER. She told me last night that she's gonna smack me upside the head EVERY single morning on her way out the door......

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, the conference calls were killers. I can see why the younger generation has taken more of a "me" attitude towards corporate life. It is healthier than the "do what ever it takes" attitude of my generation.

Martyb, tell you wife that after years of trying various methods, I have found a smack to the head allows a spouse to go back to sleep..... try an elbow to the bladder. Gets them up first thing in the morning every time. >:D

Welcome to the board

You will see that it isn't just about retiring early but how to enjoy being retired. Check out the Life after FIRE forum, it has lots of good threads
