Hello,

I am 48 years old with nothing more than a high school diploma. I did go to some specific gaming schooling after high school and, as a result, I have been involved in the casino industry for a little over 15 years.
I earn close to $100k per year; more than I ever dreamed possible with my level of education.
I started contributing to a mutual fund (Fidelity Destiny II) in the early 80's and, at my FIL's suggestion, took some money out of the fund to invest in gold and silver (mistake IMO).
I have a little over $100k in my company 401k and what I consider a normal sized mortgage on my home.
In my fantasy I would be able to retire while I'm still active and can enjoy the retirement but I have no idea how to make that a reality. This may sound spoiled but, I read where people don't do this and don't do that in order to save for retirement. I am willing to make sacrifices to get to that ultimate goal but, I don't want to live like a pauper either. The way I look at it, if you live your life that way you are assuming that you'll be around for all of those tomorrows when, in fact, it all could end today and you wouldn't have enjoyed your life because you denied yourself any enjoyment while saving for the future. I hope to be able to find a happy medium and somehow accomplish both.

I am starting to lose the spark at my job and fear that it may come to an end sooner than I would like. If I had another income source, other than my wife, I wouldn't be so concerned but, that is not the case.
I'd love to be able to get involved in an online business; something I could grow while working at my current job. This way, if my current job should come to an end, I would have something already developed.

I apologize for the lengthy introduction but, the newbie tutorial suggested being as descriptive as possible with your introductions in order to get the most helpful responses.

I look forward to contributing to this forum and hope to learn much from people who have achieved my dream.

Welcome Oneida.

If you haven't discovered it already, read here Early Retirement FAQs - Early Retirement & Financial Independence Community for some of the forum's most enduring discussions of retirement related topics.

It might also be helpful for you to sketch out your annual spending (if you don't already track it via Quicken or the like). With that in hand, use the Firecalc link at the bottom of the page to see how you might fare with your level of spending, savings and accrued assets.

Don't hesitate to ask questions about anything. It is almost a certainty that someone here will know the answer.
