Hi - relatively new user. I registered 6 years ago, then retired early and haven't been back. Too busy.
Now I have a question. I retired at 57 and didn't plan to take SS until I was 70. Now, I just heard a disturbing "rumor" from a friend. He says that you need to have a qualifying FICA quarterly payment during the last 10 years before you retire or you don't get ANY SS payment.
In other words, I would have had to work at least 1 quarter (and pay FICA taxes) after the age of 60 in order to get SS at age 70. If I don't work within that 10 year window, I don't get any SS. Is this true? I am 65 now.
Can't find any info about this on the web, but plan to call the SS office tomorrow.
