A House for a Wabbit

Yeah, agree. No surprise the SPCA wanted this song and Sarah to support the cause. Dang this makes me cry everytime I see it. I bet your sister does too.

Sarah McLachlan Animal Cruelty Video - YouTube

I can't get myself to watch the PSA when it airs on TV as it's too heartbreaking to watch.

I remember going to an animal control shelter and seeing all the dogs and cats in cages is sad.

Got an email from my sister today. She's feeling bad as got news that her 16 year old cat has cancer. My sister has told me before, the tough part about animals is losing them breaks your heart. Yet, she's still a champion in her own way.

Wonky is built!

Pretty much finished building the Wonky Playhouse for my sister. It turned out quite nice. We did it in two separate weekends. It was a lot of well spent effort (in 90 plus degree heat) and the best part is sharing the time helping my sister out. It'll be a treasured memory for both of us (we spent a good time either sweating it out building away, our just joking around having fun like siblings do).

Attached are some pictures of the Wonky house that she snapped of the various stages. She still will paint it, but the actual build is done!

Yes. My sister loves her new Wonky Playhouse for her wabbit.

The both of us (and some help from her husband as he's the tallest of us and we needed him to reach the top shingles) did it! I did the sawing of the pieces, but we both did the head scratching trying to figure out the pretty sketchy plans, and both my sister and I put the Wonky house together.

Best of all, no accidents, except for an embarassing incident the first weekend of me being "attacked by a sawhorse". But no harm done.

How does the wabbit get in? I don't see no door knob!

Maybe make the inside 2 stories and rent the top out to a possum.

Already looks nice!
Please post pictures after painting.
My kids requested we build a tree house this summer and I'm considering adapting wonky house plans.

That photo was taken just before we added a locking gate latch and a handle for the door. I think her plans are to manually let (cater to ) the wabbit letting it in and out instead of allowing the wabbit to go in out out as it pleases.

The two stories to a possum...funny :)

When she gets it all done and painted, I'll post.

My sister and I were talking while finishing the build how fun it would have been had we had a wonky playhouse as kids. I said "I bet I know where the favorite hide and seek place would be."

The plans for this house isn't very detailed so we had to improvise. For one thing, there isn't a cut list which made the project much longer. Instead, a lot of the sizes where bring a piece of lumber, hold it up, mark it, then cut it.

But I guess, who reads directions anyway?..kidding.

how cute! It's good there were no waccidents:)

Yes. Thankful for that. I try to be very safe when sawing stuff. Use clamps to hold down the workpiece and put on protection (ear protection, safety glasses, dust mask).

I'll confess about the embarassing "attack of the sawhorse". I bought these really strong saw horse legs which holds up to 1000 lbs.

Amazon.com: Target Precision RB-H1028 Rugged Buddy 28-Inch Folding Sawhorse Legs for One Complete Sawhorse: Home Improvement

The latching mechanism locks so tightly that in order to unlatch it to fold up, I had to try and use one leg pushing down on the latch and my arms holding a pair of sawhorse legs. Well, we were working on rock and I had these old gym shoes. So, when manuvering, I lost my balance and landing on my kiester . We had a good laugh.

Those sawhorse legs did come in really handy though, as while we were trying to do the top shingles, my sister was up a painter's ladder that get me nervous, so in little time, I built a temporary scaffolding with a solid platform for use out of 2 x 4's screwed into wood of the sawhorse.

Nice job, very whimsical and I'm sure you got a lot of pleasure in building it. Now we need a pic with the rabbits in it:D

My sister is supposed to get the bunny sometime today. I'm not sure if she is planning on putting it in the wabbit playhouse immediately or wait until she paints the house. The playhouse passed it's first test. My sister said by her they had a bad storm the other day. But the wabbit house stayed nice and dry. So it looks like we put up the shingles corrrectly!

If she's seriously going to house a bunny in there, then I'd recommend leaving the bunny-accessible surfaces unpainted. Because no matter how those surfaces start out, that's how they're going to end up.

Bunnies don't actually swallow the stuff-- they only grind down their teeth on it. We used to keep a piece of drywall at hand just for our bunny to chomp on.

Thanks for the tip. I guess drywall to a bunny is like potato chips to people

Picture of the bunny that my sister got yesterday. Look at them ears.

It's gonna grow up to be a giant rabbit (I never knew there was such a thing until she told me). More precisely, a Flemish Giant Rabbit.

Good thing they have a very nice demeanor because they can grow up to around 20 lbs.

Your sister should have abundant high quality organic fertilizer for her garden from now on. Not sure if the world's largest rabbit, Ralph, is related to the same kind or not.

I told my sister, she should for sure grow her own garden just to feed the future monster of a rabbit :D

Very mellow, and very social if raised with other bunnies. I've seen them at bunny gatherings hosted by our vet. It's like seeing Andre The Giant in the middle of a bunch of kindergartners.

If she hasn't already, she should talk to a vet about later-in-life health problems. I don't know about that breed, but the vet can advise on things like regular roaming time so that they don't get "hutch arthritis".

At this age I hope he gets plenty of gentle hands-on petting. The more they get as young buns, the better companions they are. When we had to pick up our four-pound dwarf Rex, if he wasn't feeling cooperative we could still usually get away with it. It's probably a little more challenging at the Flemish weight class...

I have heard it said about puppies growing into their large paws, but in this case, that wabbit is going to have to grow into those big ears:)

I sure do missed Amazon Prime 2-day shipping. Was planning on going to my sister's again to help her install a couple of small round gable vents as her wabbit house gets too hot in the sun. So, I ordered them online (unfortunately, non Amazon order) on Sunday. It ships priority mail. It's now Saturday but still no package. I did get an email on Thursday that the package shipped. I definitely am not going to shop at that place again. They have a phone number which supposely one can call the check on status, but the call goes straight to answering machine..and they dont' call back.

So I expect not until Monday for the gable vents to arrive. As that old Tom Petty song goes "The waiting is the hardest part ..."

We've decided to wait until next Saturday to work on the house as she works weekdays and I'm about 150 miles away from her.

In the meantime, an updated picture of the wabbit house painted ...
