New Guy, we got away from the original statement because it is so naive that there is nothing to say about it.

Kind of like the guy who sued GM in the 70's because they were guilty of pollution in all 50 states..........the judge threw the suit out..........

So we just continue as always. But lets think about what would happen if Saudi arabia became well a problem like to 70s embargo which they started. No we are not taking and making hard decisions. sending money to so many that hate us. No a big gasoline tax here in america that would keep the money here and not send so much to these people.

Does morality play into the picture at all? Do we continue to well you know whore ourselves for oil from a regime that spawned 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11? I don't know help me out here. Yes lets cut consumption by 12% what we buy from the saudis , why not?

Newguy - you <edit> CONTINUE TO are ignoring IGNORE the reality of commodity markets, and you did not read my post, or at least you did not absorb it.

Cutting our oil consumption by 12% does NOT mean that we would not be buying any Mid East oil. It only means that we would reduce world-wide demand by some small factor (12% times whatever our share of world-wide oil consumption is), and that would reduce the price of oil world-wide by some factor. The Mid East would still sell plenty of oil, and we would not be impacting anyone's morals.

At any rate, I favor conservation and I would love to see us cut oil consumption by 12% - but I suspect the only way that is going to happen is to make oil expensive enough for people to choose to conserve. That was posted twice already in this thread.

I could post a story of police torture in Chicago. Should we stop buying all American products? Where is your morality newguy?
