Couldn't find the quote thread so thought I'd start a new one:

Carl Sandburg

"Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you."

I went to hear him when I was a kid. Probably at the urging of my Drama or English teacher. Just remember thinking he was ancient. He was quite old at the time. Can't remember much more about him at the time though.

Hate to be a killjoy, but I spent my entire youth infatuated with this kind of thinking. I work up at 40, broke, depressed, but very poetic. The advice I wish I had gotten:

"Other people will spend your time for you, unless you have the necessary coins to buy back your life."

“Do not squander time…for that is the stuff life is made of” – Ben Franklin

Also on the sign/sundial at Twelve Oaks plantation in "Gone with the Wind".
