No not in the USA. The Canadians decided to kill their Long Form Census.

The Globe and Mail laments. I for think the US should do away with it as well. Just collect the info on how many live at the given address.

I disagree. I think this was a very backward decision. The data collected in the long form provide a rich sample of what's going on. I regularly delve into them in my job for planning purposes. Replacing the mandatory long form with a voluntary one will lead to a smaller, biased sample that is not as useful. As for the privacy argument, if the right safeguards are in place I think we can trust the government. Inconvenience is a poor argument. I believe that participation in the census is a civic duty.
