College Financial Aid

Hello All:

I am seeking opinions.....and fast.

My sister has kids who are preparing for college on 1-2 years.

My question is, what do colleges look at for determing whether someone qualifies for financial aid?

I was once told that the current income of family is at the top of the list and any investments held under the CHILD's name is also high up in determing if aid is available. (not the parents' names)

Are taxable accounts in PARENTS' names considered by college institutions?

I hope I made myself somewhat clear in order to gain some responses?

Thanks in advance.

It seems you are looking for facts, not opinions. I know the answers to your questions, but also know those are not the right questions to be asking. Suggest you look at a web site that is devoted to financial aid, like www.finaid.org
